Rear wheel brake CII 41, servicing

Note: After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position. Use brake charger/bleeder unit VAS 5234 or extraction device V.A.G 1869/4 to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir. Before removing brake caliper or disconnecting brake hose, brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 must be inserted (this dissipates pressure). I - Front wheel drive assembly overview II - Does not apply

Removing

If reusing brake pads, mark location. Install in same position when installing otherwise uneven braking will occur! - Remove wheels.

- Counter-hold guide pins and remove attachment bolts from brake caliper.

- Remove brake caliper and secure with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not stretch or damage the brake hose.

- Remove brake pads and anti-rattle springs - arrows - . Cleaning: Warning! Do not blow out the brake system with pressurized air, because the resulting dust is hazardous to your health! - Contact surfaces between brake pads and brake carrier must be cleaned, remove corrosion. - Clean brake caliper. Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper.
Installing

Before pushing back the piston, extract some of the brake fluid out of the brake fluid reservoir using a bleeder bottle. Otherwise, especially if reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage. - Install pistons at knurling wheel of Resetting Extracting Tool T10165 by turning toward right. Do not damage protective caps.

- Use special tool T10165/1 for assistance when installing. For pistons that are difficult to move, an open-end wrench (size 13 mm) can be applied at the appropriate wrench surface - arrow A - .

- Insert brake pad retention plates - arrows - and brake pads in brake carrier.

- Make sure that the brake pads are located correctly in the anti-rattle springs - arrows - . - Secure brake caliper using new self-locking bolts.

The repair kit includes four self-locking hex bolts which must be installed in all cases. - Install wheels. Torque specification for wheel bolts

After changing brake pads check brake fluid level.

Removing

Work procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper. - Remove wheels. - Unhook brake cable from lever on brake caliper. - Remove spring clip and pull brake cable from holder on brake caliper. - Connect bleeder hose of bleeder bottle to bleeder valve of brake caliper and then open bleeder valve. - Insert brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 . - Close bleeder valve and remove bleeder bottle. - Remove brake line.

- Remove both mounting bolts from brake caliper, when doing this counterhold on guide pin. - Remove brake caliper from brake carrier.

Installing

Piston is pressed back. Brake pads sit in retaining springs on brake carrier. - Secure brake caliper on brake carrier using new selflocking bolts. - Install brake line on brake caliper. - Bleed braking system 47-4, Bleeding braking system

- Hook in the brake cable and secure it to the holder with spring clip. - Adjusting parking brake adjusting - Install wheels. Torque specification for wheel bolts 46-2, Parking brake,

Repair Manual, Suspension, Wheels, Steering, Repair Group 44, Torque specifications for wheel bolts . Note: Before moving vehicle, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position. Check brake fluid level.

Parking brake, adjusting

A new adjustment is necessary only after replacing brake cables, brake calipers or brake discs. - Remove center console

Repair Manual, Body Interior, Repair Group 68, Compartments, covers and trims . - Operate foot brake forcefully at least three times. - Apply the parking brake 3 times and then release. Parking brake lever in rest position.
