CHAPTER II: METHODOLOGY A. Significance of the Study Community Defined as a group of people living in one locality.

And as a part of community public nurses, we are the one who is responsible in determining some problems encountered by the community, enlighten the public health nurses & people of the community to know their responsibilities in improving their community as individual. Families in the community will be able to get benefit from the knowledge sharing that nurses will provide through Health Teachings & Nursing Care that will be rendered to the community for the resolution of the problems identified by the community & student nurses. The effect that is significant is that they will learn things that will be helpful in terms of their care needs in the community.

Nursing Practice Effectiveness of assessment in determining some problems in the community & how to give some solution to those problems. Nursing Care Plan is important in the nursing practice, for it will serve as s pattern of care for the people in the community. But still, there are some people which should be corrected which must start to every nursing student. It may help us student nurses to practice our skills on handling some situation in the community. Reducing or totally alleviating these difficulties swill somehow help in elevating a better quality care to each people in the community to be able to implement more effective intervention to a specific condition & prioritize each of these according to needs. It will also help the nursing students & to practice formulating concepts that will provide them ideas that may need for their future use. It will also contribute to the nursing practice by increasing the nursing students knowledge and especially their skills. We can apply those not only in the ward but also in other areas such as in the community.

Nursing Education It is the formulating a plan of care or teachings in the community people. Us, student nurses have to be knowledgeable enough to build a plan of care that will be rendered in the community. Helping the people to identify actual or potential factors affecting their health, also planning some intervention & prevention to meet the goal in each problem within members of the community, and then apply it to their everyday lives. Health is very important that should make the community understand. Giving some information on how to deal with their heath care needs. In terms of applying this to nursing education, this will also further enhance & our skill, knowledge & attitude towards things that is related to every particular areas of nursing, especially in education. This will also develop ourselves in communicating to other health workers & be competent enough. Nursing Research Knowing the answer to a question requires a scientific method and not merely asking from various persons or merely observing several situations that may out-rightly provide haphazard answers to posed questions. Systematic process of collecting and analyzing information from the community in order to increase our understanding of the phenomenon about which we are concerned or interested. It should be systematic and investigational in the field of knowledge undertaken to discover or establish facts or principles. The study will contribute to us nursing students by preparing us for future challenges in becoming a nurse. Especially when it comes to nursing research related studies such as this study we have made. And as for our own experience, we have increased our knowledge in this particular area, so I think that were quite ready for the future ahead of us.

First day of our class and at around 0635H, we arrived at the red gate and at 0645H, our respective clinical instructor checked the attendance and checked our paraphernalia, then followed by the discussion of COPAR and IMCI. We were allowed to take a break and after that we went to our area at Maligaya II to do our courtesy call, ocular inspection and spot mapping. Our CI divided the group into four. After the activities, we went back to the red gate at 1146H and we were allowed to have a lunch break at 1201H, after an hour, a continuation of our discussionin IMCI, then followed by a quiz and rationalization, after that we were dismissed at around 1500H.

This is the second day of our exposure in the community at 0646H, the instructors checked the attendance & proceed into the discussion of the Introduction of IMCI, Diarrhea, & Infection in the IMCI chart and we had the second quiz at afterwards. The H2 group took a break at 0831H then proceeded to our designated area. Every subgroup started to conduct the interview and finished 12 families. At 1201H our group had lunch break. At 1300H the

instructor continue to discuss the topic about IMCI which is Jaundice and low weight for age. We had some activities and the lecturers gave us homework . At 1500H the groups are dismissed and the group went home.

This is the third day of our exposure in the community. At 0700H Mr. Imperio started the discussion about EPI, the topic was interesting and we gained knowledge. After the discussion at 0831H, we had a quiz and rationalization. Around 0900H, we took our morning break. After the break, our CI Ms. Cacananta told us to do a dry run regarding our health teaching. At 0930H, we went to our family and we rendered health teaching about cough and cold remedies and interview them also. At 1200H, we took our lunch break, after that at 1300H, continuation of lecture about feeding problem and low weight done by Ms. Delos Santos and Ms. Bongar. At 1400H another quiz and rationalization is done, 1430H post conference then we were dismissed.

This is the fourth day of our exposure in the community. We arrived to the staff house at 0620H, checking of attendance at 0646H. Around 0700H, we had an evaluation exam followed by rationalization, at 0900H we took our morning break for 30 minutes, at 0930H practice of our creative presentation for the Christmas party. Everybody was very happy and enjoyed the program, H1 won in the presentation. After the presentation at 1300H we had our lunch break right after the break, we had a post conference regarding the presentation. At 1431H we did after care and dismissal at 1500H.

It is the first day of our second week in the community, 0645H, checking of attendance, then exactly 0700H, start of discussion about Pneumonia. It was discussed by Maam Maravilla then followed by a quiz. At 0830H we had our break time after that, at 0900H we left the staff house and proceed to our designated area at Sitio Maligaya II, we conduct spot mapping and interviewing. At 1130H we went back to our staff house, at 1200H we took our lunch break and after an hour, at 1300H, continuation of discussion regarding Malaria and Dengue, it was discussed by Maam Tanseng and Maam David followed by a short quiz. At 1430H, the assigned cleaners kept the staff house clean and then they dismissed us.

This is the second day in our second week of exposure in the community. We arrived at 0630H in the staff house, followed by checking of attendance at 0645H. The lecture started at 0700H. The discussion is about Dysentery that is discussed by our C.I. Ms. Cacananta. As usual, in every discussion, there is a follow-up quiz. At 0830H we had our morning break. At 0900H we left the staff house and proceed at our designated family at Sitio Little Valley we also finished our data gathering in our said families. At 1140H, we left the area and went back to our staff house. Exactly 1200H we took our lunch. At 1300H they continue our lecture regarding measles and ear problems that is followed by a quiz. At 1420H they dismissed us and the assigned students clean the staff house.

This is the third day of our second week of exposure in the community we arrived at 0620H in the staff house and 0645H checking of attendance, followed by a discussion at 0700H, the topic is all about Malnutrition, Anemia and Deworming. After the discussion, we had our daily quiz. At 0900H we had a morning break and then we left the staff house at 0930H, we went to our designated area, we rendered health teaching regarding Malnutrition and distribute pamphlets to give them knowledge about the proper nutrition and for them to be aware about the food pyramid, so that they can prevent Malnutrition. We left the area at around 1140H and took our lunch break at 1200H. Exactly 1300H, they continue theyre discussion about Eye infection, Ear Problem, Soothe the throat, Relieve cough with remedy, Recommendation for feeding and Care for development followed by a quiz. At 1400H the assigned students clean and fixed the staff house followed by our dismissal.

Around 0700H, Maam Delos Santos and Sir Uy gave us reminders regarding make-up duty, absences, computation of grades, output and PTC. Fifth day of exposure in the community, At exactly 0620H, we arrived at the Staff house. At 0646H the clinical instructor checked the groups attendance then the evaluation exam started by 0700H. When we are about to finished the exam, rationalization follows for about 30 minutes. After doing so, at 0930H, morning break follows. After eating, at 1000H, we had an Oral and Written Revalida. It took 3hours and then we had our lunch for about an hour. When its already 1400H, We had a Post Conference regarding the exam, outputs, activities and topics to be discuss on next week so that everything will be settled. At 1430H, We are dismissed.

Exactly 0700H, start the discussion regarding school nursing by Maam Bongar and Maam Delos Santos. After the discussion, we had our morning break. At 0901H, We left the staff house then we went to our designated area, at 0931H we had our activities for today. BP taking in our designated area, one of the family member is hypertensive that is why we gave health teaching about hypertension. We left the area at 1131H. We had our lunch break at 1200H, After an hour the continuation of discussion by Maam Cacananta & Maam Lacsamana about vital statistics. At 1431H the assigned cleaners cleaned the staff house and then we dismissed.

By the time of 0731H Lecture started regarding Field Health Services and Information System that had been tackled by Sir Uy and Maam Cordero. At 0831H, We had our morning break. After 30minutes, our Clinical instructor discussed about finishing of output and health teaching. At 1201H, We had our lunch break. At 1301H, continuation of discussion about epidemiology by Maam Mozo. At 1431H, the cleaners cleaned the staff house and then we went home.
