FORUM ONE PEOPLE, ONE PLANET 26 to 29 August 2011

OneearthforOnemankind!

Aparticipativedialogueforsustainabledevelopment durable.
One people, One planet is a participative forum in which the spheres of governance (mostly international institutions) together with the citizens representatives (NGOs and social entrepreneurs), will lay the foundation for an alternative vision of the world we live in, based on the necessity to better connect mankind, its demographics and its needs, with the earths capacity to survive and regenerate. It calls for a change of paradigm to structure our thoughts and activities. It is a common platform for an on-going debate on a practical view of Sustainability. The Forums ambition is to pave the way for a medium term between the Davos and Porto-Allegre summits. It is rooted wihin key milestones such as the Club the Rome Limits to Growth in 1972, the Brundlandt report Our Common Future, and it intends to contribute to the Rio+20 celebrations in the spring of 2012 (UN Earth Summit, 1992). It aims at defining the scale of change needed, with a focus on managing a transition. As it becomes recurrent, it will gradually expand the outreach. Four key questions are at the heart of the 4-days forum debates, questioning the way we (1) consume, (2) regulate, (3) manufacture and produce, and (4) finance, within an economic system and a planet suffering from deep crisis. The answer to those four questions, specifically addressed on Monday 29/08 by the keynote speakers and panellists, will help identify the conditions for a change of paradigm: 1. 2. 3. 4. How to promote a cultural change to alter a system heavily relying on ever-growing consumption, ultimately depleting the resources of the planet, beyond regeneration? How to retune the global governance of the system currently echoing poorly the need for ecological and ethical governance, and where established indices seem inadequate? How to frame and prioritise public and private Investments to align the system on more sustainable and ecological alternatives on a long-term basis? How to set the foundation for a financial system operating in a new paradigm, aiming at prosperity in the world rather than solely maximising profit?
