Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

How Much Should I Give?

Prayer for Our Military

O Prince of Peace, we humbly ask Your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honor, dignity and devotion the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Guard our churches, our homes, our schools, our hospitals, our factories, our buildings, and all those within from harm and peril. Protect our land and its people from enemies within and without. Grant an early peace with victory founded upon justice. Instill in the hearts and minds of men and women everywhere a firm purpose to live forever in peace and good will towards all. Amen.

BABY BUCKS FOR LIFE

This month our parish will be participating in a special fundraiser to promote and further a Culture of Life within our parish and local community. The proceeds of this event will help support the lifesaving work of Womans Choice Services, a Catholic pregnancy center with four locations: Lombard, Downers Grove, Hinsdale and Crest Hill. On the weekend of July 16th and 17th, we will be taking up a second collection at each Mass. You can contribute at the time of the collection or bring the envelope back on the weekend of July 23rd and 24th. This fundraiser is a great way for our parish to help in building a Culture of Life. Thank you for your response to the call of the Gospel to serve those in great need!
Contact: Womans Choice Services 630.261.9564 Fr. Peter Jarosz WCS Board

Woman's Choice Services (WCS) was founded in 2005 as a concrete response to the need in our communities for real options and true choices. At Woman's Choice Services we open doors for women who believe them to be shut. Those women who may feel alone, abandoned, scared or pressured. Those women who may feel they don't have a choice. By providing vital counseling and resources, Woman's Choice Services helps women to see that they have a real choice for themselves. Our mission is to...

provide outreach, counseling and referrals to create a culture where no pregnant woman will feel forced to have
an abortion, provide support for those women who decide to have their babies provide help in healing for those who have been personally impacted by abortion.

Thank You From Catholic Charities

We are very grateful for Christ the Kings Religious Education and Early Learning Academy for their compassion for the vulnerable and needy. In June, we received $304.27 collected by the students. This gift will go towards preventing homelessness and emergency services. Because of your generosity families with children will receive much needed help with finding a place to live. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Fr. Peter and the students. If you would like to know more about Catholic Charities programs and services, please do not hesitate to contact Rosemary Echevarria at 630-495-8008 x2115 or go onto our website at www.cc-doj.org.

The Alpha Course

What is it? Alpha is a 10 week course that will ignite and inspire conversations about Jesus Christ. It is a practical introduction to the Christian faith. This is a place where guests have an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The course will meet for 10 weeks with a one day retreat in the middle. Each session, people enjoy food, laughter and learning about the teachings of Jesus in a fun and friendly environment where no question about Life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile. There is no charge to attend the Alpha Course. Who is Alpha for? Alpha is for anyone. People attend Alpha from all backgrounds, religions and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of Life, what happens after death, the teachings of Jesus and more. Many guests have never been to church; others may have attended Church occasionally but have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome. Where and When will it begin? Christ the King Parish is proud to announce that Alpha will begin on July 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Life Center. It will run for 10 weeks with a one day retreat. We will have hospitality, conversation, a 45 minute DVD and round table discussions with members from the parish. I have a relationship with Christ and would like to discover more about the Alpha course. Can I come? Sure and bring a friend! This engaging series will refresh and possibly rediscover many biblical facts for every Christian. There will be a planning meeting on Monday, July 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the East Room of the rectory. You can register for the Alpha Course by calling Eileen Maggiore at 630-396-6076. eileen@ctklombard.org

Prayer for our Marriage

Heavenly Father, we thank You for your tremendous gift of the Sacrament of Marriage. Enable us to grow in our intimacy with You and with each other. Teach us the beauty of forgiveness so we may become more and more one in heart, mind and body. Strengthen our communication with each other, and help us become living signs of your love. Help us to be a commitment, love, and service to our families and children. Make us a sign of the unity which Jesus prays for at the Last Supper. We open ourselves to the guidance of your Holy Spirit, who empowers us to love in Jesus' name and walk in His footsteps. Amen.

Reflections on the Sundays Readings

His dominion (First reading) is brought about through the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead (Second reading). It is the dominion of life over death, not only in our bodies (Second reading) but in our culture, institutions, laws and policies. That Spirit dwells in us (Second reading). We, therefore, are life-givers! In fact, we will either spread life or death. There is no neutrality. It is an easier yoke (Gospel) to both embrace and spread life than death, because we were made that way. We were made to be life-givers. The Son wishes to reveal the Father to us (Gospel) precisely through that Spirit. What do we learn when he does so reveal the Father? We find the revelation of ourselves people of life, people of self-giving, people who can love like the Father loves! Priests for Life

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Calling all Ladies who would like to donate their time and talents by knitting or crocheting prayer shawls, lap robes, and baby blankets. They would demonstrate that we are a caring parish by providing comfort and blessings to our elderly living at home or in nursing homes, the critically ill, and babies. We will meet once a week, on Wednesdays for 1-2 hours. We could always use yarn donations. If you need to refresh your skills, everyone is willing to help you. I could use a co-chair person to help in my absence. Join us on Wednesday, July 13th at 1 o'clock in the East Room of the rectory to knit and crochet, exchange simple patterns, and pray for the community. You can call Bonnie Venezio at 630 519-3190 for any questions or to register. Yours in Christ, Eileen B. Maggiore, Pastoral Associate
