A Look Back at Sundays Sermon: Peter and John before the Sanhedrin Part 2 (Acts 4:12-22) Acts 4:12-22

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%204:12-22&version=NIV It is important to note that just a few months earlier Jesus was in a similar situation with the same group of people that Peter and John were in. The Sanhedrin didnt like what Jesus was teaching or doing; now Peter and John have just healed a beggar in Jesus name. In the second part to Peter and John before the Sanhedrin guest speaker Roger Dawson brought three MUSTS from the passage 1. MUST BE SAVED (V.12) - God isnt saying that you have no choice in being saved because salvation is always optional, a choice. The Greek translation of must be is it behooves you, meaning you ought to do something if you know what is good for you. -God was giving the reader a choice -Jesus is the only true name people can call upon, not Mohammad or, Vishnu or Buddha -Have you called upon Jesus name? It behooves your too 2. MUST OBEY (V.19) -The Sanhedrin represented Israels Supreme Court, they were the ones in control so it bothered them that Peter and John were not only teaching in the temple but teaching doctrine that was not authorized by them -Peters boldness astonished the Sanhedrin. He had no formal training or authority in their eyes and yet he was teaching them. - In V.17 Peter and John are threatened by the Sanhedrin to be arrested and yet Peter continues to speak. He was fearless in the face of opposition in Jesus message. -Peter had a life changing experience and was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. That power allowed him to proclaim the truth to a group of men who didnt want to hear it. -It is important to stand firm when persecution comes your way. Here are 2 verse to help you with that:

*Proverbs 29:25: Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever

trusts in the LORD is kept safe Dont get caught in a trap of worrying about what others think of you. A lot of the times that is why Christians dont speak up for God. People may think your crazy, but remember the promise from prepared to give an answer to respect It is important to be prepared and ready for people to question you about God. Dont fear people because of their power, title. Still speak the Word because you have the power of the Holy Spirit 3. MUST SHARE (V.21) -Dont keep the message of Jesus to yourself -Do you as a Christian have the same urgency as Peter did to spread the Gospel? (Jer.20:9) -Have you seen a change in your own life because of Jesus? Are you more like Jesus today then you were last year? Take the things you have seen and heard about Jesus and share them with the community. If the church does that Spring Valley would be changed.
