Compatibility with Previous Releases

Can co-exist on the same PC with ACM 11.1 Can load ACM 10.0, 10.1, 10.2 or 11.1 .acmf files (may be some warnings about obsolete features) .acmd and .acml files from earlier releases cannot be loaded .appdf files from previous releases are not compatible re-generate these from bkp/inp using Aspen Plus 12.1

Locking the Flowsheet

There is now an option to lock updates on the flowsheet
Flowsheet, Lock

A locked flowsheet cannot be modified graphically. Items cannot be added, removed or moved This can be used to prevent accidental changes from being made

Copy and Paste on Flowsheet

Cut or copy a block, a stream, or a section of blocks and streams from a flowsheet
Paste them into the same flowsheet, or another flowsheet

opened in a separate instance of ACM, or between different hierarchy levels within a flowsheet
All block data, including parameter and variable properties, will

be copied to the pasted blocks and streams

Note: copy of connection or controlsignal streams does not copy variables attributes, because the variables actually belong to the origin or destination of the stream, not to the stream itself

Model Update
Update function: to change underlying model used for a specific block or a stream
Where variable or parameter names match these will be copied

from the original to the new instance of the block

Powerful mechanism for switching between simpler and more

rigorous models, or between standard and customized versions of a model

Drag and drop the new model on the block

Update to Custom Model

When you copy a model from a library to Custom Modeling, you can now force all blocks using this model to use the custom version You can also update later

Working Folder
Located in the same folder as the input file The working folder name now has AM_ prefixed to the simulation file name ACM locks the working folder rather than its parent
Two ACM sessions can access (different) files in the same

folder without having to select a different working folder

If you need working folder contents created with previous version of ACM, copy the working folder to the location of the input file and rename the working folder adding an AM_ prefix

Script
OnLoadSimulation flowsheet script
If a flowsheet level script called OnLoadSimulation is present in

a simulation, this script will be run when a simulation is loaded

This allows, for example, simulation specific units of

measurement or screen layouts to be set up

Capture screen capture has been improved

Extend Capture Screen Layout to capture open editor windows

Phase Plots
Phase plots allow you to plot any simulation variable on the X axis of a time series plot Any time series plot can be converted to a phase plot by dropping a variable onto the X axis

New PIDIncr
PIDIncr models a proportional integral derivative controller using an incremental control algorithm, as used in most modern electronic controllers. Key features of PIDIncr include:
Ideal, series, and parallel algorithms Auto, manual, and cascade operation Optional tracking of the process variable by the set point when in

manual mode

Anti-reset windup Various input filtering options Dead banding

PIDIncr uses an incremental algorithm which calculates the change in the output as a function of the error (closer to that of real industrial controllers)

PIDIncr Automatic Tuning

The new PIDIncr controller model includes an automatic tuning capability which you can use to determine suitable values for the controller tuning parameters Open loop methods are:
Ziegler-Nichols, Cohen-Coon, IMC, IAE, ISE, ITAE

Closed loop methods are:

Ziegler-Nichols and Tyreus-Luyben
