4. Eligibility for Application


Applicants should have at least one of the two conditions and be able to take classes either in Korean or in English. Language Proficiency such as TOPIK level 3 or TOEFL 550 may be needed from the next fall semester followed by the Korean government policy.

A. Masters Course
1) Condition 1 a) Applicant and both of applicants parents must be foreigners. b) Must hold a Bachelors degree after completing college curriculum legally. (Including applicants who anticipate a Bachelors degree prior to the starting semester) 2) Condition 2 a) Must be a foreigner. (Nationality of the applicants parents does not matter.) b) Must hold a Bachelors degree after graduating from elementary, middle school, high school and college outside Korea. (Including applicants who anticipate a Bachelors degree prior to the starting semester)

B. Doctoral Course
1) Condition 1 a) Applicant and both of applicants parents must be foreigners. b) Must hold a Masters degree after completing masters program legally. (Including applicants who anticipate a Masters degree prior to the starting semester)

2) Condition 2 a) Must be a foreigner. (Nationality of the applicants parents does not matter.) b) Must hold a Masters degree after graduating from elementary, middle school, high school and college outside Korea. (Including applicants who anticipate a Masters degree prior to the starting semester)

5. Required Documents
Documents should be submitted in the following order. All documents in other foreign languages must have a Korean or English translation. There is no need to submit notarization. Incomplete documents will NOT be accepted. If we receive incomplete documents by mail, we will return the documents after deducting the return fee of KRW 20,000 or USD $20.00 from the application fee.

A. All Applicants
1) [Form 1] Application for Admission 2) [Form 2] Curriculum Vitae 3) [Form 3] Research Plan 4) [Form 4] One Recommendation Letter from the professor of applicants graduating school It is mandatory for the applicants who are currently staying abroad but optional for the applicants in Korea. However it will be considered while screening the documents. It must be sealed. If it is not possible to submit the recommendation letter mentioned above due to the unavoidable situation, other recommendation and the self-statement of reason can be substituted for this. 5) [Form 5] Recommendation from the Prospective Supervising Professor of CBNU It must be sealed. It is not mandatory but it will be considered while screening the documents. 6) [Form 6] Affidavit of Financial Support 7) An original copy of Diploma (or Certificate of Expected Degree) from the last school attended 8) An original copy of Graduation Certificate (or Certificate of Expected Graduation) from the last school attended 9) An original copy of Official Transcript from the last school attended Transferees must submit an original copy of Official Transcript from the college where you attended before transfer.

10) Certificate of Language Proficiency If you have Certificates such as TOPIK, KLPT, TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, and TEPS, you MUST submit all of them. 11) Certificate of Balance It must show that the applicants financial sponsor has deposited USD $10,000 or more. 12) Condition 1: Documents that prove applicants parents are foreigners (Copy of Residence ID Card) Condition 2: Documents that prove you have completed elementary school, middle school, high school and college outside Korea 13) A Photocopy of Passport 14) Application Fee: KRW 70,000 or USD $70.00

If you remit the application fee to the designated bank, the remittance receipt must be submitted.

B. Chinese applicants who need to obtain a visa


1) A Photocopy of both sides of the applicant and his/her parents Residence ID Card 2) Original book of Household Register It must contain up-to-date information of all family member records, at least 6 months from the application date. If the Household Register does not contain the records of all family members, you must submit a Certificate of Relationship of your family which can be obtained from the local police office. If you are currently enrolled in a university and your name is not on the Household Register of your family, you need to get the Household Register from the university and submit it additionally. The employment information of your parents must correspond with the employment certificate. 3) Employment Certificate of the applicants mother or father It must show the institutions name, employment period, position, income (monthly or annual) and phone number of the company. If it is in Chinese, a Korean or English translation must be attached. A private company owner must submit a photocopy of Business Registration Certificate. 4) Certificate of Balance You must submit the scanned copy of the bankbook along with the Certificate of Balance. It must show that the owner has deposited USD $10,000 or more for over 30 days after the date the statement was issued.

The deposit date, issuance date and period of frozen account must be included. It must show that the owner will keep the balance of USD $10,000 or more until January 31, 2011. Please include the phone number of the Banks office in charge at the bottom of the page. 5) The applicant who is expecting his/her graduation must submit as an additional requirement.

6) The applicant who is submitting the Certificate of Expected Graduation must e -mail the scanned copy of the Graduation Certificate to juwana42@jbnu.ac.kr and mail the original copy to the CBNU as soon as one has obtained the Graduation Certificate. 7) 2 color photos (3.5cm4.5cm) Print-outs after scanning are not acceptable.

C. Applicants who are currently staying in Korea


1) Must submit a photocopy of both sides of the Alien Registration Card 2) Must submit a photocopy of a bankbook which shows that the applicant has a balance of KRW 1,000,000 or more.

This can substitute the Certificate of Balance of USD $10,000 or more.

3) The applicant who is studying in Korea must submit a Completion (or expecting) Certificate and an official transcript.

D. Applicants who graduated from Chonbuk National University


1) Applicant who are expecting his/her graduation on February, 2011 need to submit a Confirmation Letter from the Supervising Professor [Form 7] additionally. 2) Exemption from submitting the documents that prove applicants parents being foreigners or documents that prove you have completed elementary school, middle school, high school and college outside Korea 3) Exemption from submitting a Recommendation Letter from the professor of the applicants graduating school [Form 4]

E. Applicants who are applying for Arts major


1) Must submit photos of artistic works or proof of achievements.

6. Application Reminders
1) Write down the exact name of the major in Korean or English and the Department Code. 2) Changing of majors is not allowed once the application has been accepted. 3) All documents must be in Korean or English. All other documents in another language must have a Korean or English translation. 4) Recommendation Letters [Form 4, 5] are valid only when it is sealed with the professor's signature. 5) All applications must contain all necessary documents and is to be completed before the deadline. Any incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Only the application that meets the deadline is acceptable when you apply via mail. 6) If we receive an incomplete application by mail, we will return the documents after deducting the return fee of KRW 20,000 or USD $20.00 from the application fee.

7) All the submitted documents except the original diploma, graduation certificate, and a household register book and application fee will not be returned. 8) The original diploma, graduation certificate and household register book will be returned to the unsuccessful applicants via post mail. Successful applicants may pick them up at the International Affairs Office after the semester starts. 9) Applicants who submit the Certificate of Expected Graduation must present the original copy of Diploma no later than March 4, 2011 to the International Affairs Office. 10) All documents should be in A4 size, if not it should be pasted on the A4 sized paper.

7. Application Fee

8. Admissions Criteria
1) Admission decisions are based upon the examination of all the documents and an interview. 2) Current aptitude and knowledge about the major and the potential ability to study is 70 points and Korean or English Language Proficiency is 30 points. (Total 100 points) 3) The item of Current aptitude and knowledge about the major and the potential ability to study will be evaluated by the current knowledge and potential ability about the major (40 points), intellectual attitude and attainments (10 points) and Research Plan (20 points). 4) The item of Language Proficiency will be evaluated by the Language Proficiency Certificate, Completion Certificate of Language Training Program or etc.. 5) The admission will be granted to the applicants whose total point is 60 or more within the capacity of each department. 6) The admission will not be granted to the following cases and other aspects will be decided by the Graduate School Committee. a) Applicants whose total point is less than 60 b) Applicants who missed the interview c) In the case of any false information or forgery in the application documents.

d) Applicants who did not submit the Certificate of Balance 7) Other aspects regarding admissions are based on the admissions regulation policy of the Graduate School Committee.

If there is any change after submitting the application, you MUST update us with the new information. 6) If you miss the interview, admission will not be granted.

B. Tuition Fee Payment


1) Period: February 7 ~ 9, 2011 2) Location: Any branches of Jeonbuk Bank or NH Bank in Korea

3) If the tuition fee is not paid prior to the deadline, the admission will be cancelled automatically. 4) If you are not able to enter Korea before the due date, a representative must pay the tuition fee in Korea. 5) We will notify the detailed Registration Information on the website after the admission announcement.

11. Reminders
1) Admitted students who are expected to graduate must secure the degree at the beginning of the semester; otherwise the admission will be cancelled. 2) If any of the application documents contain false information or forgery, the admission will immediately be forfeited. 3) If it is found that an applicant is admitted by illegal means or the applicant's degree is unapproved by CBNU, the admission will be cancelled, even if the applicant is already attending the university. Tuition fee is non-refundable. 4) If it is found that the interview was conducted by someone else, the admission will be cancelled, even if the applicant is already attending the university. Tuition fee is non-refundable. 5) CBNU is not responsible for admission cancellation due to the mistakes made on the application, missing documents, and unfulfilled entry procedures. 6) All the information including admission announcements will be posted on the homepage. Please follow the directions carefully. 7) All accepted applicants must complete all admission and registration procedures before the deadline. If the tuition fee has not been paid on the given deadline, the admission will be cancelled. 8) Among those who are admitted, students whose Korean proficiency is found to be less than adequate to effectively participate in class might be required to take a Korean Language class. 9) The applicants who applied for the department which is different from the major of his /her graduating school must take additional pre-requisites except graduation credits (24 for Masters, 36 for Doctorate). Doctorate program applicants who have graduated from a special graduate school must also take additional pre-requisites except 36 graduation credits. 10) Admitted applicants should submit a proof of Health Insurance after the tuition fee payment. 11) Regulations of Chonbuk National University are applied to the items that are not defined on this prospectus and other particulars are decided by the Graduate School Committee.

12. Matriculation Procedures after Admission

Entry to Korea

Report the entry to the International Affairs Office

CBNU will send the Certificate of Admission to the address on the application of the successful candidates who are staying in Korea, and they may also need to apply for a change of visa status or exten sion of the permitted sojourn period.

B. Scholarship for International Students


: CBNU provides the University Fee (approx. 70-80% of the whole tuition) for the first semester. The international students scholarship for the succeeding semesters would depend on the grade of the previous semester , etc.

1) Scholarship for the first semester - University Fee (approximately 70-80% of the whole tuition) - Refer to the table above for details. 2) Scholarship for International Students - There is a scholarship program available only for international students as of the second semester. It will be determined depending on the grade of the previous semester, etc. - Types of Scholarship: Whole Tuition, University Fee, Half of the University Fee, Instruction Fee - The scholarship is available up to 4 semesters including the first semester. - Qualification: The average grade of the previous semester must be over 90 points 3) Scholarship for a student who is a professor in a foreign university - Students working as a professor in a foreign university which is acknowledged by CBNU are qualified for the 1st class scholarship. 4) Scholarship for a student who has family members enrolled in CBNU - Students who have one more family members enrolled in CBNU are qualified for this scholarship.

5) Korea Research Foundation (KRF) Scholarship - Doctorate: 900,000 Won/month for 3 years at most - Masters: 700,000 Won/month for 3 years at most - The scholarship will be provided only when the applicant is selected. 6) There is a BK21 (Brain Korea 21) scholarship and a NURI (New University for Regional Innovation) scholarship available for participants in a project. 7) It is possible to participate in a project managed by the supervising professor and receive a research fund. 8) There is a WCU (World Class University) scholarship available for participants in a project.
