AIUB IEEE Organization (student branch)

World is changing rapidly. And science plays an important role for this. Today we are grateful to science, for this modern world. But where every developed country is culmination in science & technology sector but unfortunately we are far behind them, because there are less opportunity to research & make our science knowledge strong. If we want to make stronger science knowledge we need to discuss about science & research on those factors. For research and developing our science knowledge we need an organization. And there is science organization for us in AIUB and that is AIUB IEEE organization.

Introduction
The IEEE, a non-profit organization, is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. The full name of the IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., although the organization is referred to by the letters I-E-E-E and pronounced Eye-triple-E.. And this organization has a student branch in AIUB (American International University Bangladesh). Its called AIUB IEEE student branch. And some other SB of IEEE in Bangladesh is BUET, KUET, BRAC University, North South University, IUT & in Ahsanullah University. But AIUB IEEE club started it journey in _________.

Functions
The IEEE provides learning opportunities within the engineering sciences, research, and technology. The goal of the IEEE education programs is to ensure the growth of skill and knowledge in the electricity-related technical professions and to foster individual commitment to continuing education among IEEE members, the engineering and scientific communities, and the general public.

IEEE offers educational opportunities such as IEEE eLearning Library,[11] the Education Partners Program,[12] Standards in Education[13] and Continuing Education Units (CEUs).[14] IEEE eLearning Library is a collection of online educational courses designed for self-paced learning. Education Partners, exclusive for IEEE members, offers on-line degree programs, certifications and courses at a 10% discount. The Standards in Education website explains what standards are and the importance of developing and using them. The site includes tutorial modules and case illustrations to introduce the history of standards, the basic terminology, their applications and impact on products, as well as news related to standards, book reviews and links to other sites that contain information on standards. Currently, twenty-nine states require Professional Development Hours (PDH) to maintain P.E. licensure, encouraging engineers to seek Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their participation in continuing education programs. CEUs readily translate into Professional Development Hours (PDHs) (1 CEU is equivalent to 10 PDHs). Countries outside the United States, such as South Africa, also require continuing professional development (CPD) credits. In South Africa, the IEEE South Africa Section is a voluntary association of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), a signatory of Washington Accord. To maintain registration with ECSA, professional engineers (Pr Eng) must pursue CPD, and now the IEEE, via its local reflection in South Africa, can enable CPD provision. In 2010, it is anticipated that IEEE Expert Now courses will feature in the CPD listing for the IEEE membership in South Africa to derive benefit. IEEE also sponsors a website[15] designed to help young people understand better what engineering means, and how an engineering career can be made part of their future. Students (ages 818), parents, and teachers can explore the site to prepare for an engineering career, ask experts engineering-related questions, play interactive games, explore curriculum links, and review lesson plans. This website also allows students to search for accredited engineering degree programs in Canada and the United States;

visitors are able to search by state/province/territory, country, degree field, tuition ranges, room and board ranges, size of student body, and location (rural, suburban, or urban).

Benefits of joining in IEEE

Whats new @ IEEE: gives the opportunity to be up-to-

date by providing most recent technological information online

IEEE Potentials: the magazine that presents news on the

most modern research, and provides a look at various business and career matters

IEEE Spectrum Magazine: every month, IEEE members get

this award-winning magazine, which deals with the invention, function and implication of new technologies.

IEEE.tv: this award winning television network, which is internet-based, delivers news on technology and engineering. IEEE memberNet: allow members to connect online with technical and engineering experts all over the world.

Microsoft Software Offer for IEEE Students: IEEE, in 0conjunction with Microsoft, is providing a broad assortment of development software for IEEE members.

Examples
Anyone could be benefited by AIUB IEEE organization by some workshop, seminar, social tours. Here are some examples of those activities at AIUB IEEE organization.

Workshop on Solar Panel Installation

IEEE AIUB SB and EEE Dept. with the collaboration of Rahimafrooz presented a workshop on Solar Panel Installation. High officials from rahimafrooz came and showed the participants actual operation of the system theoretically and practically.Faculties from AIUB delivered valuable lectures on other renewable energy sources and green house effect. Besides that a brief presentation was given on Sterling Engine operation.

Seminar on Energy Savings

On this seminar speakers highlighted current power consumption in Bangladesh and steps individuals can take to reduce the loadshedding as well as save earth from pollution. Besides that brief concept of Earth Hour and energy auditing were discussed during the seminar.

Social Tour

IEEE AIUB Student Branch members enjoyed the annual social tour at Panam City, Sonargaon, Narayanganj. It was a very refreshing tour for the members.

How to join
During the IEEE Recruitment period (Generally in December) Executive Committee of our student branch provides a form. That form must be filled up correctly with necessary information and within a deadline that form must be submitted to the branch Secretary. The Executive Committee will help the members to deal with the membership registration process along with the payment issue.

If you are interested to join IEEE, you can also process your membership by using international credit card. Now good news is that for developing countries student you dont need any money to join this club. Where American, Canadian and European students have to pay 22 $ per year.
