(6) Mission 1'lIr..ber 293:
1. roo Jirna is the only radar check point be-
t:-reen br1se end landfall. Landfall is at 3240N--13150E on the east
coast of Kyushu. just north of Nobeoka. Navigation by radar to the
initial point is very good and the many coastal check points can be
used for fixing position and obtaining a radar rrind. The initial
point, 3346JON-13l57JOE is the island of bai, 17hich cannot be con-
fused 17ith other islands in the vicinity because it is the mast
'J'esterly of the group. Matsuyama is a good radar target \7i th ex-
cellent check points on the axis of attack and good reference pointe
around the target The 2 islands of Heligun and Oichi can be
used for course corrections and the toon of is a good
reference paint to aid in locating the target area. Tim method of
release to be by direct synchronous at 11,000 to 11,800 feet.
(b) Mission Number 2911:
1. The only radar cbeck poiot and
19ndf311 is 1170 Jima. Landfall is at 3240N-13l50E, a distinctive area
north of Nobeoka an the eastern coast of Kyushu. The initial point
is tho northuBst corner of Beppu Bay, uith radar navigation from land-
fall to the initial point being excellent, using tho peninsula C03st
tor fixing position and 7ind runs. The city of Tokuyama is
on an easily identified coastline and is a good radar target. The
course from the initiAl point to the target haa reference
points \7ith aims Jima, directly an the axis of attack, being the
first chock for rourSB and drift. '!be course then checks through the
tip of Ryodo Shima. Tho target itself up as a sep3r-
ate signal on the coast and the aid of the reference points for
oouree, all operators should do excellent bombing. Direct synchro-
nous boobing i1as to be used..
