In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

Transliteration

[002:011 Wa-itha (ans when) qeela (it is said) lahum (to them) la (do not) tufsidoo
(you make mischief) fee (in) al-ardi (the earth) qaloo (they say) innama (only) nahnu
(we are) muslihoona (peace-makers)]

[002:012 Ala (verily) innahum (they are) humu (those who) almufsidoona (are peace
makers) walakin (but) la (do not) yashAAuroona (they perceive)]

[002:013 Wa-itha (and when) qeela (it is said) lahum (to them) aminoo (believe) kama
(as) amana (believe) alnnasu (other people) qaloo (they say) anu/minu (shall we
believe) kama (as) amana (believe) alssufahao (the fools) ala (verily) innahum (they)

humu (they themselves are) alssufahao (the fools) walakin (but) la (do not)
yaAAlamoona (they know)]

Translation

[002:011 When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we
only Want to make peace!"]

[002:012 Of a surety, they are the ones who make mischief, but they realize (it) not.]

[002:013 When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we
believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.]

Exegeses
For those who put worldly interests first, total and unconditional devotion to the truth
appears unwise, for their true allegiance is to their worldly interests, and it is only on a
superficial level that they can attach themselves to the truth. They consider themselves
clever. They think that they are safeguarding themselves in the world, and also
qualifying to be considered among the pious. But this is no more than wishful thinking;
it is a figment of their imagination rather than a real fact of life. Every test in life
removes them further from the way of truth and binds them closer to their selfish ways.
Their hypocrisy is like a cancer, which grows and grows. They consider themselves to
true believers, who act in the interests of truth, to be destroying themselves for no good
reason. They call their own policy, on the other hand, one of reconciliation; they prize it
for enabling them to pursue a safe course without clashing with anyone; but this just
shows how distorted their reasoning is. If they were to think deeply, they would realize
that true peace on earth can only come from man giving himself up to Allah alone, and
that it is evil to obstruct any movement aimed at consolidating man’s relationship with
his Lord. Their seemingly profitable trading is in fact running at a loss, for they are
forsaking pure truth for an adulterated version of the truth, which can benefit none.
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala it telling us the signs of the hypocrites. That when it
is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth." It is mentioned here that Allah told
them. The Quran did not let us know when Allah told them. There is one logical point
that All told them or the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) told them – it does not
make any difference. Because it was an advice to them. And they reply would ever be as
it was by that time – only we are peacemakers. Instead of taking the advice, they replied
that they were the peacemakers only. Imam Jaffer Saddique (AS) said

“may God bless a man who gives me as a gift an advice to

solve my problems.” What it means by? If I have any problem or any weakness in the

morals and then I have someone who comes to me and gives me advice, that is a
gift for me. That is a true believer who thinks on these lines.
But these hypocrites instead of accepting the advice they on the contrary used to
say that they were the reformers and peacemakers. This is the common practice of the
hypocrites. There is one more sign of the hypocrites that they always look clean. They
always think about themselves that they are better people as compare to others. There is
no spirit in them to learn more morals. Why do they say that they are always doing well?
Somewhere I mentioned in the past lecture, if a man takes a wrong way – the way of
shaitan, and keeps going and going and going without getting light of the guidance. That
person would never get his destination. So one must know the evident difference
between right and the wrong. Once a black spot of ignorance came on your heart, it starts
growing bigger and bigger. That your heart becomes jet black and you do not let the
knowledge and light enter your heart. May Allah protect you from such kind of evil
attitude. This is the pattern and routine of the hypocrites. Here we have got a big lesson
that we should keep our heart open for the learning and accepting what we do negative or
wrong.
If a man fixed a way and that is a bad way, Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala keeps the
blessings out of that person. And make that person incapable of understanding what is
right and what is wrong. They always give the bad actions and they have the bad access
to the good actions. Scholars are of the view that our actions fall into three categories:
The first action we call it Haal. Haal is the action that a man does first time and
after that he leaves it quickly. If a man continues doing the same action more and more
then it changes into a Haal. This Haal becomes the part of that person. And if it goes
continuously then it is called Malaaka. This also becomes the part of the person. And
also there is one more entity that supposing a person who remains sad all the time and
you want to make him brave. In order to make that man brave the first thing he has to do
which may take the scare/fear out of him. The first thing which is required to be
addressed in this regard is Haal. In order to get rid of scaring the action what is done is
called Haal. And if the action continues it would be called Al Haal. And when it
becomes the part of the personality of the person we call it Malaaka. And when this
comes into a person, it can not be changed anymore. And this can be bad or good way.
We can give an example from the Nwafil Layl. The night prayers, you might be sleeping
in the first hours and when you continue in the middle of the night, it becomes the part of
you. The more you offer them the more they become of the part of you. The very same
example we can get that when you become a true believer then it becomes the part of
your personality. That no change may come in you again. Then in this condition Allah
grants you the power that makes you understand what is right and what is wrong. And
this ability is already in you. You need not acquire it. It only requires your attention and
that’s it. The shaitan comes and tries to incite the servants of Allah towards the sinful
pattern of life. But the true believers like you my dear readers, they can never ever think
to tread on the path of sin pebbled pavement. And these hypocrites when they are told
about their wrong actions and nefarious activities, they don’t accept your and our

correction. On the contrary they say that are the peacemakers and reformers.
How bad is their end on the Day of Judgment. We do understand under the light of the
holy Quran. One important issue let me discuss here that the corruption of a single
person does not only confine to him. It spreads from him and it does leave its negative
effects on others too. And good attitude of you and Islamic pattern of life not only gives
benefit to the doer but also it leaves genial and pleasant effects on others.
So Allah has told us in very clear words that what are the main signs of the
hypocrites in our society. This kind of humanity lives in every age. So we have been
told in advance. Because such kind of humanity still lives in our surroundings. The
matter of fact is that it is a worst punishment and curse of them who do not accept the
error and faults of them. And they say that they are always right like animals. May Allah
protect us from the evils of hypocrites. Allah further tells us that when they are told that
they should behave like others who are pious and correct people. They get astonished
under the false impressions of their nefarious mentality, they say what shall we follow the
fools? Oh my God. How wrong they are in their attitude. This Allah is telling us. So
dear readers be careful there are so many worst humanities in your surroundings. Such
people who used to come in the company of Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
they would proclaim that they had embraced Islam but it was all through their tongues.
Whereas, in their hearts they were against the system of the holy Quran and they had no
firm belief in the holy Quran. So what were the signs of the them Allah told Muhammad
(Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in clear words. Actually these are also for us to
understand. They are sick mentally. They are sadist. They are shaitans.
Dear readers let me encapsulate the topic the hypocrites avoid alssirata
almustaqeema. They blatantly oppose the alssirata almustaqeema and consider their own
sirat-e-iblis the right path.
This holy verse contains a vast matter of intellect. That would be
Inshallah discussed with you in other humble sitting. Please pray to Allah that I may
have the strength to explain the holy verses of the holy Quran in detail. Allah Hafiz.
