he River Cities Readers Regional Beer
& Wine Guide is, frst, a tool to navigate
the oferings at this years River City Beer
Festiv-Ale (on August 27) and WQPT Brew Ha Ha
(on September 18).
But its also something to keep around, a way to
explore the current craf-beer boom on your own
schedule.
Tis guide includes descriptions of more than
300 beers found at Festiv-Ale, Brew Ha Ha, or
both. Beyond helping you get around the two
events, these can help you decide if you want to
buy this beer or that one at the store, discover
brews you havent tried before, and make requests
at your favorite retailer, restaurant, or bar.
For people who want to drink local (or visit
places where local beverages are made), weve
included a listing of breweries and wineries within
120 driving miles of the Quad Cities. Tere are
also listings of local home-brewing clubs and
supply stores, as well as other nearby beer and
wine festivals.
If the volume and exoticness of these listings
intimidate you, there are many resources that
can give you some basic beer knowledge for
example, BeerAdvocate.com/beer/101. But the
best way to learn about beer and discover your
tastes is to drink it. Find something that sounds
appealing and give it a try at either of these local
festivals or at home.
River City Beer Festiv-Ale will take place
on Saturday, August 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. on
Rock Islands Great River Plaza (in front of
RIBCO). Admission is $20, which includes a
commemorative mini-pilsner sampling glass,
14 sampling tickets, and admission to the
nights entertainment at RIBCO, featuring Te
UniPhonics. Additional sampling tickets can be
purchased at the event. For more information, visit
RIBCO.com.WQPT Brew Ha Ha will take place
on Saturday, September 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. in
Davenports LeClaire Park. Advance tickets are
$20, and admission is $25 at the gate. For tickets or
more information, visit WQPT.org/brew.

here are plenty of new and exciting happenings at WQPT
and your attendance at Brew Ha Ha helps to make it all
possible. Weve started a new public afairs program called
The Cities with Jim Mertens which airs each Thursday
night at 6:30 pm and Sunday at 5:30 pm. We have
a new community calendar called Out and About
and we are in pre-production for a new arts program.
Weve got a new performance program called WIU
Presents and MHz Worldview, WQPTs second channel,
has become a great place to discover news, dramas, documentaries
and entertainment programming with an international fair. And
that is just what is happening on television. In the community we
continue to give books to low-literate, low income children, train
teachers and visit in schools. Coming up in October we are creating
our second event in conjunction with the remarkable documentary
Freedom Riders that tells the story of the bus riders who wanted
to peacefully protest segregation and were met with violence in the
Deep South during 1961. Our speaker will be Diane Nash, one of
the leaders of that movement. To fnd out more visit our
website and plan on attending this very special event
on October 15
th
at the Martin Luther King Community
Center in Rock Island.
Finally, our sponsors, vendors, committee members and
volunteer corp are extraordinary and WQPT wants to say a very big
THANK YOU to everyone who works so tirelessly to make Brew Ha Ha
such a wonderful time along the Mississippi. We hope youll like us on
Facebook and check out our website at wqpt.org to fnd out more about
the station. Thank you for attending our 12

Breweries
(Breweries within 120 driving miles, listed in order of proximity to the Quad Cities, closest to farthest.)
RIBCO's Festiv-Ale and WQPTs Brew Ha Ha are great ways to explore the world of beer, and the Quad Cities
and surrounding areas offer plenty of opportunities for further adventures, with nearly 20 breweries and 50
wineries within 120 road miles. Use this guide as a way to spot local beer and wine at your grocery or liquor
store, or use it as a starting point for day trips. (Be sure to call your intended destination ahead of time for its
public hours, whether they offer tours and tastings, etc.) If youre interested in making beer or wine, we also
list local home-brewing clubs and home-brewing supply stores.
