INFORMATION SHEET Non-Commercial Drive Test Appointment (NRS 483.330)


Please thoroughly study this information sheet. Bring it and other required documents (as well as the appointment confirmation e-mail you received from the Department) to your non-commercial drive test.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Before you can take a drive test, you will need to present the following:
1. Beginning Driver Experience Log (DLD130) required for applicants 16 and 17 years of age. Prior to arrival, the Beginning Driver Experience Log must be completed (preferably in dark blue or black ink), logging at least 50 hours of driving experience; 10 of which were driving in darkness, and signed by a parent/guardian (100 hours of driving experience if you live in a rural area where drivers education classroom training is not offered within a 30-mile radius of your residence). Instruction Permit required for applicants 16 and 17 years of age; must be valid and held for at least six months. Proof of 30 hours drivers education classroom training required for applicants 16 and 17 years of age. Proof of current vehicle registration (must be free of bad debts, suspensions, or revocations). Proof of Nevada Insurance in the registered owners name required for vehicles registered in Nevada. If the vehicle is registered in another state or jurisdiction, the applicant must present evidence of valid liability insurance for the vehicle in the registered owners name or evidence of valid liability insurance that covers the applicant as the operator of the motor vehicle.

NOTE: Rental vehicles (other than motorcycles) may not be used for non-commercial drive tests.

REQUIRED VEHICLE EQUIPMENT (The equipment must be in operating condition.)


Before the drive test, your vehicle will be checked by an examiner for the following equipment and items:
1. A permanent passenger seat (with a back) located in front beside the driver. 2. Muffler with no excessive exhaust or noise. 3. Brakes. 4. Windshield wipers. 5. Headlights high and low beams. 6. Two red taillights visible from 500 feet. 7. Chains or snow tires (when required in your area due to inclement weather conditions). 8. Windows with no cracks, breaks, or obstructions of drivers view, and clean enough so as not to interfere with vision or be hazardous. At least one window must open. 9. Tires in good condition and properly inflated (studded snow tires are only acceptable from October 1 through April 30). Space-saver spare tires are not acceptable. 10. Mirrors All vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1970, are required to be equipped with at least one rearview mirror. All trucks with rear view obscured must be equipped with an outside rear-view mirror. 11. Two red brake lights. 12. 13. 14. 15. Electric turn signals. Speedometer. Audible horn. Current license plates as required (one in front and one in the rear, depending on the type of vehicle). However, if the manufacturer provided no means to display a front license plate, one license plate must be attached to the motor vehicle in the rear (NRS 482.275). Seat belts in working condition (fasten and release easily) with appropriate flexibility once fastened. The examiner and the applicant must wear seat belts during the test. Two lap belts in the front passenger position on any car manufactured after January 1, 1968. Lap belts in every passenger position, front and rear, if manufactured after January 1, 1970. Two shoulder harness-type belts in the front seat positions after January 1, 1970. Doors There must be a passenger door that opens from both inside and outside and will close securely and stay closed. It must have an appropriate handle that works easily.

PLEASE NOTE
If you are a first-time driver, your drive test may be cancelled due to adverse road conditions and then rescheduled. If the Nevada DMV discovers you have an unresolved problem-driver record in another state, your drive test will be cancelled.
