With this strengthened connection, information is processed much
easier.
According to the Center for New Discoveries in Learning, learning
potential can be increased a minimum of five times by listening to this 60
beats per minute music.
Listening to Mozart’s Sonata for Two Piano’ss in D major releases
neurons in the brain, relaxing the body and improving concentration.
Students who listen to this music can temporarily increased their IQ and
spatial reasoning skills by as much as forty percent. Playing this same
music during testing as from learning will also increase the recall.
““The The mathematical skills, linguistic/reading skills, and spatial
skills are benefited the most,” Band Director Christopher Schletter said.
After discovering his love of music Schletter pursued a music
education degree at the University of South Florida. He was a member
of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum for three summers, joined the
Broadway show Blast! for two years, and was band director at Flanagan
High School for three years before coming to Cooper City two years ago.
““II can’t even imagine the massive differences there would be in
my life if I were not around music like I have been,” Shletter said. He has
been playing the piano for over twenty years and has witnessed first hand
experiences on how music affects the lives of his students academically
and personally.
Even though music has benefited Arbulu in achieving a lot of
his school success, it has taught him things outside of the classroom as
well.
““It hasn’t just helped me academic wise,” Arbulu said. “It “ ’ss also
helped me juggle things.” When playing his clarinet, for example, Arbulu
listens to make sure he is in tune and following in the correct beat. If he
isn’tt playing correctly to either one of these, he is quickly able to adjust
himself, a skill of multi-tasking that musical training has allowed him to
master.
““There
There is an expressive side of music that can never really be
fully defined,” Schletter said. ““We We feel things, remember things, and
experience things when we perform or play music.”
As Thomas Jefferson wrote The United States Declaration of

Nina Kraus, a neuroscientist at Northwestern University, told LiveScience
in a 2007 article.
In a 2006 online edition of the Journal Brain, it was shown that
musically trained children performed better in a memory test correlated
with general intelligence skills such as literacy, verbal memory,
mathematics, and IQ. According to Stanford University, research shows
that our brain is adaptable and with musical training, people can change
their mental agility. Using a functional magnetic resonance imaging
scanner, or FMRI, researchers proved that musicians had more focus
than non-musicians because their brain activity was described as more
efficient.
According to the College Entrance Examination Board, those who
take more than four years of music, in a recent study, scored 34 points
higher on the verbal portion of the SAT and 18 points higher on the math
portion, than those who took less than a year of arts education. These
higher test scores were not only seen on the SAT, but also in reading
proficiency exams.
““My highest SAT score is a 1430,” Arbulu said. Arbulu’ss SAT score
assisted in his acceptance to the University of Florida’ss Honor Program.
““Music
