Are they just a toy or a tool that can improve teaching, student learning and productivity? How do you find the best educational apps for educators and students? Lets talk about how immediate access and availability to information, productivity tools, a global network, assistive technology as well as being able to create content and media, all on one device, can change a classrooms learning environment. Methodology Participants of the workshop will experience first hand the fluency of instant access to information and the power of personalized learning. Participants will use selected apps for specifically designed activities to experience and experiment with their iPads. The workshop is designed to practice strategies that the theory behind 21st century pedagogy preaches and allows time for hands-on and reflective activities with iPads in Education. What You Will Do: Participants will be engaged in an array of activities and learn tips and tricks to raise their comfort level and creativity in using iPads in education.

Learn about apps that support the iPad as a productivity, creation, learning and teaching tool. Participate in hands-on activities to learn about the iPads capabilities and potential in the classroom. Reflect on the iPad as a tool to change the classroom learning environment.

Basic navigation on the iPad from turning pages to swiping, from clicking to tapping, from zooming in and out to pinching. How do you take a screenshot, copy and paste or convert your iPad into a Photo Frame? Lets take a closer look to gain fluency in working with the iPad. Learn About the iPad as a Differentiated Learning Device Every student learns differently. Lets take advantage of the iPads ability to challenge, engage and motivate different learners. The iPad, in the hand of a creative educator, supports the application of learning/thinking theories/framework in the classroom (Ex. Sample Agenda- Two Day Workshop


Day 1 Introduction Go over workshops goals and agenda. Essential Questions: What kinds of learners do I have in the Classroom? How can the iPad, as a tool, help differentiate learning? How can I prepare my students for 2023? Overview of iPad What to do with the iPad once you take it out of the box? Lets look at hardware and software controls, settings, shortcuts, and adding content to your iPad. We will share general tips and tricks to increase your comfort level and help you get the most out of the device. 21st Century Skills and Literacies The iPad supports teaching skills and new kinds of literacies to prepare our students for their future. The iPad as a Teaching Tool The iPad gives us instant access to information and media to support and supplement teaching in the classroom. The iPad as a Learning Tool The iPad is a device that supports differentiated learning. Lets take advantage of the personalization opportunities for individual students to enable their unique learning needs. The iPad as a Creation & Publishing Tool Students become curators of information, their own radio show hosts, documentary creators, tutorial designers, storytellers, and creators of their own books. Apps A showcase of apps that supports all levels of the Blooms Taxonomy. We will look at examples for digital storytelling, writing, mindmapping, productivity, note taking, video and audio production, photography and specific subject areas. Day 2 Sample Lessons, Units and Projects Lets look at a variety of sample activities to demonstrate the iPads capabilities and possibilities in the classroom. Lesson, Unit or Project Development This session will include working in small groups to plan and upgrade a lesson, unit or project for the 21st century with the iPad. Reflective Activity How do you plan to use the iPad to increase student engagement and motivation? How do you plan to use the device for your own productivity and professional learning? How will you use iPads to increase student learning? Breakout Sessions- Customized sessions to address specific areas of interests, topics or apps.

Culmination - Participants will share their upgraded lesson, unit or project with the rest of the group as well as in an online depository.
