Loreal: (a young vibrant girl, full of life. Faces heath problems later on, Female.) Jonna: (dependent best friend, always willing to lend an ear, but when time gets hard buckles under pressure. Male) Manager 1: (middle aged, impressionable and very self-conscious. Female) Manager 2: (middle aged, very brash, harsh exterior. Male) Wanda:(in Mid 20s. Not concerned about feelings, but a paycheck.Genuinely cares for Loreal. Non-Gender) Ensemble: Lively dancers.

Working Overtime... (Lights up. LOREAL is seen waiting tables. She dances while she does so. The MANAGERS are eating together, and DONNA is waiting as well. Wanda is overviewing her employees) WANDA: Loreal, stop it! I dont pay you to dance! (LOREAL keeps waiting with her headphones in and does not pay attention. DONNA pulls out LOREALS headphones.) DONNA: Hey, Lorie. Cut the crap or your gonna get yourself fired! LOREAL: What crap? You know this is what I love to do. (Their conversation goes silent, Meanwhile at the table) MANAGER 1: I dont know, wheres all the hot talent we used to have in this city? MANAGER 2: Theyre all got casted in Fame. MANAGER 1: (LOREAL is still dancing. He notices) Shes great! MANAGER 2: I havent seen moves like that since, since, I dont know! (They pull out a business card and walk towards LOREAL) WANDA: LOREAL, I cant take this anymore! Youre out! MNG2: And youre in (hands the card) MNG1: We want you as our star, with moves like that, youd have a promising career. LOREAL:

Working Overtime... You really think so? MNG1: Well call you tomorrow to set up an interview MNG2: No audition necessary. (LOREAL pulls out her hand for a shake) LOREAL: (confident)Lorie. (Cue music, the scene shifts to a performance of LOREALs promising career as a dancer to Donna Summers She Works Hard For The Money)

THE MONEY HONEY THE MONEY HER RIGHT

(*LOREAL takes her bow, and the ensemble tugs at her costume, violently ripping it off and placing her old uniform on. Loreal is shown walking to her job and the set gets put back together.During this the managers narrate.) MNG2: Lorie danced, and danced, and found her way dancing into strangers beds. ! ! ! ! MNG1: All her hard work. Her triumphs, all for waste. All she can do now. (during this, the scene changes to the restaurant) MNGS: Is hope for the best. (Lights up on the restaurant. Enter LOREAL)

Working Overtime... WANDA: (very hesistant) So Im back. I need a job. Am I still fired? REMY: A job? For what? Youre Loreal! You dont need a job like this. (Enter JONNA) JONNA: LOREAL! I havent seen you in such a long time! WANDA: Dont pity her. Whats the matter? Why are you back? Why are here? Whats the-LOREAL: I HAVE AN STD ALRIGHT? (pause. during this next line WANDA begins her monologue) Nobody can accept a star like this. Im just-WANDA: Be quiet, Loreal, be quiet! What is wrong with you? Stop it! I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this. When my mother yells like this its because she loves me. I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! How dare you! Learn something from this. When you go to bed at night, you lay there and you take responsibility for yourself, cause nobodys gonna take responsibility for you. You rollin your eyes and you acting like this because youve heard it all before. Youve heard it all before, you dont know where the Hell I come from, you have no idea what Ive been through. But Im not a victim, I grow from it, and I learn. Take responsibility for yourself. You dont need this Loreal, because youre worth it. (smiles) JONNA: So she became worth it, and she overcame her sickness to become the best she could possibly be. She finally made her transition from Loreal to Lorie. And now, shes better than ever. One more time! 5, 6, 7, 8! (A reprise. The ENSEMBLE comes out and dances with LOREAL, Reliving her dream) SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY SO HARD FOR IT HONEY SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY SO YOU BETTER TREAT HER RIGHT
