PLATFORM OF JAVA An edition of the Java platform is the name for a bundle of related programs from Sun that

allow for developing and running programs written in the Java programming language. The platform is not specific to any one processor or operating system, but rather an execution engine (called a virtual machine) and a compiler with a set of libraries that are implemented for various hardware and operating systems so that Java programs can run identically on all of them. Java Card: A technology that allows small Java-based applications (applets) to be run securely on smart cards and similar small-memory-footprint devices. Java ME (Micro Edition): Specifies several different sets of libraries (known as profiles) for devices that are sufficiently limited that supplying the full set of Java libraries would take up unacceptably large amounts of storage. Java SE (Standard Edition): For general-purpose use on desktop PCs, servers and similar devices. Java EE (Enterprise Edition): Java SE plus various APIs useful for multi-tier clientserver enterprise applications. As of September 2009, the current version of the Java Platform is specified as either 1.6.0 or 6 (both refer to the same version). Version 6 is the product version, while 1.6.0 is the developer version. The Java Platform consists of several programs, each of which provides a distinct portion of its overall capabilities. For example, the Java compiler, which converts Java source code into Java bytecode (an intermediate language for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM)), is provided as part of the Java Development Kit (JDK). The Java Runtime Environment (JRE), complementing the JVM with a just-in-time (JIT) compiler, converts intermediate bytecode into native machine code on the fly. Also supplied are extensive libraries, pre-compiled in which are several other components, some available only in certain editions.

The History of Java Technology

Since 1995, Java has changed our world . . . and our expectations.. Today, with technology such a part of our daily lives, we take it for granted that we can be connected and access applications and content anywhere, anytime. Because of Java, we expect digital devices to be smarter, more functional, and way more entertaining. In the early 90s, extending the power of network computing to the activities of everyday life was a radical vision. In 1991, a small group of Sun engineers called the "Green Team" believed that the next wave in computing was the union of digital consumer devices and computers. Led by James Gosling, the team worked around the clock and created the programming language that would revolutionize our world Java.

The Green Team demonstrated their new language with an interactive, handheld home-entertainment controller that was originally targeted at the digital cable television industry. Unfortunately, the concept was much too advanced for the them at the time. But it was just right for the Internet, which was just starting to take off. In 1995, the team announced that the Netscape Navigator Internet browser would incorporate Java technology. Today, Java not only permeates the Internet, but also is the invisible force behind many of the applications and devices that power our day-to-day lives. From mobile phones to handheld devices, games and navigation systems to e-business solutions, Java is everywhere!

How do I install Java ?

The procedure to download the Java broadly consists of:

1. Download and Install 2. Enable and Configure 3. Test Installation The following software will be installed on your computer: 1. The Java download, which includes the Java Plug-in software and the Java Virtual Machine components needed to run
the Java technology based applets in a web browser. 2. The Java Web Start software which simplifies launching and running web-based programs that use Java technology based software.

Windows Download and Installation Downloading and installing the Java is easy and free. There are three ways by which you can get the Java: y Automatic download y Manual download y Offline download Automatic

For Internet Explorer This process downloads the installer file from the Internet and requires no user intervention. Your computer must remain connected to the Internet during the installation because the installer fetches the files from the web directly. For instructions to automatically download and install the Java: Go to: Windows Automatic Download and Installation Instructions

For Mozilla 1.4, Netscape 7/7.1 (Not Officialy Supported) Using XPInstall, you can automatically download and install the Java for Mozilla 1.4 or higher, Netscape 7/7.1 browser. XPInstall is a technology used to do cross-platform installations, packaging and software updates. For instructions to automatically download and install the Java: Go to: Windows Automatic Download and Installation Instructions Note: Administrative Permission is required in order to install the Java on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP. Note: If you face difficulty using the Automatic download option, try the Manual download or Offline download option.

Manual This process downloads an IFTW (Install From The Web) executable program file (e.g., j2re-1_5_0_(version)-windows-i586-piftw.exe, appx. 221KB size) and requires minimum user intervention. When you run this program, it fetches all the required files from the web. Hence you must remain connected to the Internet during the installation. For instructions to manually download and install the Java: Go to Windows Manual Download and Installation Instructions Note: Administrative Permission is required in order to install the JRE on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP. Note: If you face difficulty using the Manual download option, try the Offline download option.

Offline This process requires you to download an executable file (e.g., j2re-1_5_0_(version)-windows-i586-p.exe, appx. 15.2 Mb size) that includes all the files needed for the complete installation. You do not need to remain connected to the Internet during the installation. The file can also be copied to a computer that is not connected to the Internet. For instructions to download and install the Java offline package: Go to: Windows Offline Download and Installation Instructions Note: Administrative Permission is required in order to install the Java on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

Linux Download and Installation There are two ways by which you can get the Java:

RPM (Redhat Package Manager) Self Extracting Binary File

Linux RPM uses Redhat Package Manager to install the Java. In order to use this method, RPM must be available on your computer. If it is not available, use the self extracting binary option. For instructions to download and install the Java: Go to: Linux Download and Installation Instructions

Solaris Download and Installation There are three ways by which you can get the Java:

Communication is the activity of conveying meaningful information. Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient, although the receiver need not be present or aware of the sender's intent to communicate at the time of communication; thus communication can occur across vast distances in time and space. Communication requires that the communicating parties share an area of communicative commonality. The communication process is complete once the receiver has understood the sender. Business Communication: communication used to promote a product, service, or organization; relay information within the business; or deal with legal and similar issues. It is also a means of relaying between a supply chain, for example the consumer and manufacturer. Business Communication is known simply as "Communications". It encompasses a variety of topics, including Marketing, Branding, Customer relations, Consumer behavior, Advertising, Public relations, Corporate communication, Community engagement, Research & Measurement, Reputation management, Interpersonal communication, Employee engagement, Online communication, andEvent management. It is closely related to the fields of professional communication and technical communication. In business, the term communications encompasses various channels of communication, including the Internet, Print (Publications), Radio, Television, Ambient media, Outdoor, and Word of mouth. Business Communication can also refer to internal communication. A communications director will typically manage internal communication and craft messages sent to employees. It is vital that internal communications are managed properly because a poorly crafted or managed message could foster distrust or hostility from employees
