Eleven breaks for

solo soprano saxophone

Peter Dobbing
August 2011

These Breaks were written as

practice pieces for a soprano
saxophone I acquired in July
2011. The idea of the break a
quasi-improvisatory
piece
to
develop some aspect of technique
and musicianship was originally
conceived back in the 1980s when
I played alto and tenor sax for a
while. It would have been fun to
have included some of my original
breaks in this collection but the
pieces are no longer to hand (I
think theyre in the attic
somewhere!). I imagine these
pieces will be played (and refined)
on the island of Yell when I travel
up there to start work on some
land that, we hope, will be our
home before too long. At least
there wont be the problem of
annoying the neighbours!
