By Maria Cascario When David and Kellen Heckman started their business, Tru-Colors, twenty three years ago, they knew it would involve a lot of hard work, long hours and much dedication. They have worked hard to continue to be conscientious and give their customers the same service they would want for themselves. David said, When we went into business in 1988 we started out as painting contractors. Over the years, the business evolved into a general contracting company and then we began specializing in fire and water damage clean up and repairs as our company continued to grow. We may have grown, but we are still small enough to care. Tru-Colors Restoration, unlike other companies, handles everything from emergency service to complete repairs needed. Kellen said, We work with the homeowners

from start to finish on all projects and we are on call 24/7 because disasters happen all hours of the day and night. Water or fire damage is a catastrophic situation. Tru-Colors Restoration technicians

are all certified and trained in the latest drying and odor removal techniques. David said, There is nothing worse than coming home and finding water all over your house. Some people think a shop vac

and a fan will take care of the problem, but its actually the moisture trapped behind the walls that will create a mold issue within days if not dried properly. All products they use are green, leaving no

Common Sense for Animals Celebrates 2nd Year in Renovated Facility in Franklin Twp.
Common Sense for An imals (CSA) is a nokill, non profit animal shelter nestled in the rolling hills of Franklin Township, Warren County. They have been saving the lives of thousands of lost, abandoned and unwanted companion animals for 21 years, and have been in the newly renovated facility for almost two years now. What a blessing! If you have not yet visited, stop by for a tour any time you are in the area. They provide safe haven to approximately 150 cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, reptiles and small and furry critters at any given time, all of whom wait for a chance at a loving and forever home. CSA is an animal welfare organization dedicated to the belief that all animals are entitled to dignity and respect throughout their entire lives, whether they are a dairy cow, wildlife, or live in the family home as a companion pet. In addition to pet adoptions, CSA operates a childrens education program, teaching proper pet care and responsibility. They also provide pet therapy to the elderly in area nursing homes, as well as certify dogs to work in therapy. One of their proudest accomplishments through the years is their southern dog rescue program. Since 2005, CSA has been rescuing dogs from as far south as Georgia. Literally hundreds have been saved from euthanasia through their organization and instead, become beloved members of so many families. Watching the South slowly change their attitude toward stray dogs is very satisfying. Hurricane Katrina was the catalyst that woke the North up to the fact that thousands were going to the gas chambers each week. CSA, like many other Northern organizations, developed pathways to help save these dogs and puppies. If you, or someone you know, is considering a new pet, please tell them about all of the homeless animals that wait in shelters like CSA. If you cant adopt, please think about volunteering your time, or making a muchneeded donation. Visit CSA on the web at www.commonsense foranimals.org or call them at 908-859-3060.

health hazards. In the event of fire or smoke damage, proper cleaning techniques can minimize damage and save many personal and valuable items. Kellen explained how most issues are covered by homeowners insurance. She said, We work for the homeowners and with their insurance company to help guide them through the process. Many times, a homeowner will call their insurance company not knowing

they have the right to choose a professional restoration contractor of their choice. We believe it is our job to make a bad situation a little better by explaining the process to a client. Most jobs are completed in two phases, the first being emergency service, which is anything from securing a house after the fire company has left, or maybe installing temporary power to preserve the food in your refrigerator, to drying a home after your sink or hot water heater overflowed. The second phase is to help the homeowner prepare a list of items that may have been damaged beyond repair to present to their insurance company along with a detailed repair estimate, so any repair work that is necessary can begin. Kellen and David agree that without the dedication of their staff none of what they do would be possible. Being a company on call 24/7 means having a staff that cares as much as they do about providing fast and reliable service. No matter what your needs are from fire and water damage, to any type of general contracting, add Tru-Colors Restoration, 610-588-1816, to your contact list and visit them online at TruColorsRestoration. com.

This Little Piggy came to the Washington Farmers Market! In addition to an incredible assortment of locally grown and produced fruits, vegetables and gourmet specialties, the Washington Borough Farmers' Market features children's activities, cooking contests, special events and more. Priscilla Merta, owner of John Parr Light Trucking & Landscaping, recently brought her special guests to "Piggy Day." While parents shopped, children enjoyed petting and watching tricks performed by the pot-belly pigs and made a free Pig Magnet Craft. In this photo, Olivia Stuber of Washington meets one of the guests. The Farmers Market in Washington is held every Friday though September near the intersection of Routes 57 and 31 (in the Methodist Church parking lot) from 3pm to 7pm.

The Forks of the Delaware District (part of Minsi Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America), which serves thousands of youth in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture and Explorer Crews, will be conducting Inaugural Tim Lambert BSA Memorial 5k Run/Walk and One Mile Fun Run, on October 29th, 7am to noon, at Scott Park in Easton. The event will take place in historic downtown Easton at the convergence of the Delaware and Lehigh rivers on Larry Holmes Drive (known as Scott Park). Tim Lambert was a retired Easton police officer and an active Easton school district resource officer. In October of 2008, Tim and his daughter, Taylor, were tragically killed in a motorcycle accident traveling home from a BMW motorcycle club event in New York. Tim was a Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 29 in Forks Township and

an active member within the Scouting District. He was very passionate about the scouting program and always had a positive attitude toward everything and everyone. The race route takes runners across the Easton free bridge (Main Street) into Phillipsburg, NJ and crosses back into Easton through the downtown area, and then back to an exciting finish at the waterfront. There will be prizes and awards for multiple categories and age divisions. There will be live entertainment at the new Scott Park stage by AJC Band (ajcband.com), and various Sponsors will be in attendance. As well, both the Easton and Phillipsburg mayors will be there to start the race and will be available for a meet and greet. All participants who pre-register will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag. There is also a one mile fun run, which only costs a dollar on the day

of the race (requires parental signature of a waiver for children under 18). Visit minsitrails.com/ lambert5k to register for the 5k and for additional information on payment procedures. Packet pickup starts at 7am on the day of the event, and the 5k starts at 9:30am. The fun run starts at approximately 11am. Adult participants are $25, $15 for students 17 and under, $15 for Scouts 20 and under, and $1 for all fun run participants. All 5k runners/walkers will have up to one hour

to complete the course. Registration closes October 7th. Race-day registration for the 5k will incur an additional $5 fee and participants are not guaranteed a tshirt or goodie bag. This first annual 5k run/walk will benefit the local Boy Scouts of America by supporting the community scouting programs that Tim cherished so deeply. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to his sons college scholarship fund, in memory of Tim and his daughter. For details, call Tom at 908-319-2324.

Members of Warren County Community Colleges mathematics honor society recently earned national recognition at the 2011 Mu Alpha Theta National Convention in Dallas, Texas. The group placed 12th and was awarded trophies in the Gemini team competition.

WCCC Mu Alpha Theta members Jessica Kiedes, President Laura Wojcik, Treasurer Chris Graham, and Dylan Gary represented the college at the convention. I am so proud of these students, remarked Dr. Joseph Phillips, the founder and adviser of the colleges chapter of

Mu Alpha Theta. They trained hard all year in the hopes of improving on last years award-winning performance in Washington. It is so rewarding to see all of that hard work pay off! Last year, Dr. Phillips was awarded a grant that allowed him and three of his honor society students to attend the national convention in Washington, DC. Warren County Community Colleges math team earned a 15th place trophy at that competition, making this years 12th place finish a significant improvement.

ASK NOAH DAWL

Though it's already August, summer still has a lot in store for us. Gardeners are having a good time of it. (How are those tomatoes coming along? And it will be apple picking season soon. Love the Garden State!) And there still are plenty of barbecues, swimming, boating, and fishing days ahead of us. And oh, baseball. Yay, Little League! Which reminds me: Dear Noah: I was in the park last weekend with my kids, playing baseball and having a pretty good time. Guess the sun got to me, because I passed out right there on home plate. When I woke, a bunch of medics had me on a stretcher and were loading me into an ambulance. Who were those masked men anyway? (signed) Curious and Grateful Dear Grateful: Those masked men and women are likely your very own neighbors. NJ Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance crews are both volunteer and paid professionals, highly trained and ready to answer our calls for help within minutes. In fact, NJ EMS responds to over 800,000 emergency calls every year. One of the marks of summertime is seeing EMS volunteers standing in the middle of a busy road, asking passersby for a donation. (True, right?) Help them out, if you can. They really do need to keep their medical skills and equipment up to date, and donations help make that happen. Theyre here for us when we need them, arent they? By the way, if youre interested in becoming a member of EMS in your community, explore the NJ Office of EMS website for information: http://www.state.nj.us/health/ems/

In this infectious rhyming read-aloud, Baby Llama turns bedtime into an all-out llama drama! Tucked into bed by his mama, Baby Llama starts worrying when she goes downstairs, and his soft whimpers turn to hollers when she doesnt come right back. But just in time, Mama returns to set things right.
