We would like to wish our Coast to Coast Sports Team and our students competing at the upcoming NZ AIMS Games Competition all the very best of luck! We are always very proud of the way our students compete at interschool competitions and often hear from parents and other schools about the excellent sportsmanship our students demonstrate. Thank you to all our school families who support the students at these events.

Music Department
Inter-Intermediate Music Days A group of eight MIS
musicians travelled to Te Awamutu Intermediate School last week for two days of music tutoring and performing. They all had some drum experience then a lesson with the Head of Music at Waikato University who surprised them by teaching in bare feet and often without words which kept them on their toes, then a band practice with 80 other students. Even after the first practice it sounded awesome with solos from Levi Flintoff and Jordyn Mellow. On the Friday they all sang which was something new for a couple of the students but it was fun and they all enjoyed the experience. A performance for students and parents on the Friday afternoon went well and we want to thank all the parents who provided transport over the two days.

3rd Vault 2nd Overall 3rd Overall 3rd Floor, 3rd Overall

This has been a wonderful outcome from a focused group of students who trained during and outside school hours. Kitreece Hickin (gymnastics coach) has been a huge influence and motivator for many Primary Schools, the local Gymnastic club and for our gymnasts this year. We would to thank her and Sally Armstrong for coaching the team this year, and for the parents who provided transport on the day.

Pulse 2011 Friday night saw our two Rock Bands,

Surrounded and Bullet Proof competing at Pulse. Wow, what an awesome experience to be on stage with an audience of hundreds of screaming fans, strobe lighting and celebrities floating around. Both bands played well with Bullet Proof having their original song nominated into the top three. Big ups to everyone and thanks to those who came to support us.

Lateness Becoming An Issue For Some Students

We have noticed an increase in the number of students who have been late getting to school recently. We regard this as a serious issue and ask parents to support us in emphasising the need to get to school on time. The majority of these students walk to school and need to leave earlier or walk faster!

Regulation Uniform
Thank you to the parents who write a note regarding incorrect uniform if students require a temporary uniform pass. We are seeing an increase in the number of students wearing incorrect uniform, especially shoes. Winter uniform is to be worn until the end of Term Thee, another eight weeks away; we expect students to be in correct winter footwear until then and will not accept the wearing of alternative shoes. It is also an expectation that students arrive to school and leave the school grounds each day in the correct school uniform. Mufti sweatshirts, non-regulation scarves, coloured socks etc will not be accepted. We will be having a blitz on this in the coming weeks. Once again, we require and appreciate support from families. Thank you Vicky Marshall Deputy Principal

Thank you to Harrys Menswear & Surf for organising the Camp T-shirts for our team again this year and thank you vey much to Silver Fern Farms for donating the sausages for the BBQ.

Change to Summer Uniform Policy

There has been a change in Uniform Policy; from the start of 2012 all MIS students (boys and girls) will be required to wear traditional, regulation black roman sandals during terms one and four. These sandals will be available from Harrys Menswear & Surf from $45.00 as well as other shoe outlets. Please be aware of cheap imitations as they can break easily.
