Michelles goal is to help educators and parents appreciate how social thinking and social skills is an integral part of students academic, vocational and community success. She was honored with a Congressional Special Recognition Award in 2008. She developed the Social Thinking program that for 15 years has assisted individuals with diagnosed and undiagnosed social- communicative difficulties. Students with high-functioning autism, Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD), ADHD and nonverbal learning disorder (NLD) have benefited from this treatment approach, but Michelle's practical strategies are increasingly being taught to a broad range of students and adults, with or without diagnosis. Research published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders supported Michelles methodologies for higher- functioning autism and Aspergers. Social Thinking materials provide the basis for instructional programs developed in the U. S. and abroad for specific settings and student needs.
