TEMPORAL CHASTITY VOW

Cell Leader: Dear leaders, after much discernment, we are determined to commit in keeping the sanctity of marriage by virtue of purity. We intend to take up this temporal chastity vow that we may learn to live chaste lives as our Saviour did. Cell Leader: We also ask of your intercession together with the Empowered Community and with, Mother Mary, and all the holy saints of God to help us in prayer in this vow. Leaders: Are you fully aware that you embrace this vow in complete freedom, without compulsion or pressure exerted from any person or group, and that we invite you to embrace this vow only on your own personal decision? Candidate: Yes I do.

And I seek to consecrate myself to Jesus by encouraging each other in our cell to abstain from romantic relationships, until such a time when I will discern with an accountability partner and our leaders, and when ready, to be released from this temporal vow. These (rings) will be a symbol of our commitment, in which we ask of you to continue to pray and shepherd us in this Empowered Community. Leaders: Father, bless these rings with holy water as you bless their intentions. Grant them what they seek, in Jesus name. Amen. (Candidates receive their rings and at hold it at their right hand) After hearing your intentions, we pray that you be pure and chaste, and ask you to pray to God for his guidance and blessing. Candidate: Jesus, I wear this, as a sign that I freely choose to take up this promise to purity. I will save the sacred gift of my sexuality for love of you. I will accept and will give support to my cell members taking this promise, to imitate you in a special way, in giving the prime of my youth to God. And I seek to serve God and His church while discerning about my vocation. And upon answering it, I will give myself completely with a clear conscience. And I ask Mary; and all the saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me, to the Lord our God.

Leaders: Friends, remember "Chastity is a difficult, long term matter; one must wait patiently for it to bear fruit, for the happiness of loving kindness which it must bring. But at the same time, chastity is the sure way to happiness."

Chastity Promise
Whatever you do, do from your heart, as for the Lord, and not for others... (Colossians 3:23)

I, the undersigned, am fully aware that I embrace this vow in complete freedom, without compulsion or pressure exerted from any person or group. I freely embrace this vow as my own personal decision. I will treat all as brothers and sisters in Christ (1Timothy 5:1-2) believing that by postponing romantic (boy-girl) relationships, I am able to offer the prime of my youth (18-25 yrs old) to the Lord. (2 Timothy 2:22) In doing so, I am free to serve the Lord without distractions, without unnecessary baggage and dangers that premature relationships would usually bring. In this period of time, (until 25*), I will strive to search and discern my vocation in life, while serving God, his Church and through the Empowered Ministry. I offer this time also to come to know our first love (1John 4:19), and that in seeking first the Lord, I hope to learn from the source of love, before being in love. I offer this time also to focus more on my studies too in the spirit of excellence for God. (1Timothy 3:1) I will strive to be accountable and be open to the counsel of my leaders, knowing that they have my best interest in mind which is for the greater glory of God; to be salt and light in this world. I will strive to live a life that does not conform to the ways of the world (Romans 12:2) to avoid all occasions of sin, and to detach myself from all vices (including smoking, drinking, gambling, etc.) and to live a lifestyle that is without compromise. (Matthew 5:48) I am grateful with the gifts God has given me, and so, encouraged not to tamper with our body for vanity sake, and to dress appropriately at all times. (1Peter 3:3-4) I understand that being chaste is a predisposition to marriage. Nevertheless, I have an option to pursue another calling: that is to live in singleblessedness, religious life, or priesthood.
