GENERAL

1. GENERAL
This section provides general information on the Hybrid Converter (HYB CONV). The HYB CONV, which is connected with the PASOLINK, PASOLINKS, 2000 Series and 2500 Series equipment manufactured by NEC as shown in Fig. 1-1, permits point-to-point interconnection of supervisory (SV) signals having specified electrical characteristics (such as RS-232, RS-422, etc.) between the equipment.

FUNCTIONAL OPERATION

2. FUNCTIONAL OPERATION
This section covers functional operation of the Hybrid Converter (HYB CONV). The HYB CONV provides the following functions to permit interconnecting the supervisory (SV) signals between connected equipment. A functional block diagram of the HYB CONV is shown in Fig. 2-1. RS-232 to RS-422/RS-485 Conversion RS-422/RS-485 to RS-232 Conversion Signal Combining and Dividing

2.1 Signal Conversion and Combining/Dividing

The SV signals in RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 are applied to related converter (CONV) circuits through interface terminals. In each of the circuits, the SV signal is first converted into a signal in transistortransistor logic (TTL). Either of the signals output from the RS-232 and RS-422/RS-485 CONV circuits is manually selected by setting a switch of selector (SEL) circuit. The selected signal is applied to a re-timing circuit which provides sampling and jitter re-timing. By re-timing the jitter, several-hop transmission of the signals is established. The SV signal is split by a divider (DIVIDE) into each channel, as required. The output signals from the DIVIDE circuits are applied to combiner (COMB) circuits through bus lines. In each COMB circuit, the signals are combined in a stream, and then applied to an RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 SEL circuit. The SEL circuit is manually set to select either the RS-232 circuit or RS-422/RS-485 circuit. The signal passing through the SEL circuit is fed to the related CONV circuit (RS-232 or RS-422/RS-485). Here, the signal in TTL is converted into a signal in RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 for associated equipment.

2.2 Alarm and Control

When the external power of DC-DC CONV module is faulty, the SV1 and SV2 signals for RS-422/RS-485 are protected through relay contacts of RL2, RL3, RL4 and RL5. During the alarm conditions, a power supply alarm (PS ALM) is reported to external through relay contact of RL1, and a power (PWR) indicator is unlighted.
