A kind man is the central message about the character of Mr Jack Tolo, COPE member of Parliament who was killed in the early hours of Monday Morning in his house at Ga-Masha, Ngwaabe, near the steel bridge on the road to Jane Furse. Political parties, church and interest groups reacted in shock to the murder of the 63 year old politician and clergyman of the Apostolic Church in his village. Mr Tolo was also a businessman and owned several shops in the Ga-Masha area. What apparently happened is that four men, three of them with faces covered in balaclava masks entered the house at about 02:00 on Monday morning, gained entrance to the main bedroom where Mr Tolo was sleeping with his wife Salome and tied them up. They also tied two of the couple daughters and two of the grandchildren up and demanded to know if there was a gun in the house. They then blatantly shot Mr Tolo in front of his wife before ransacking the premises and made of with about R7000, a number of cellphones and jewellery. The Police have launched a massive manhunt to catch the killers amid speculation whether the killing was a common robbery or politically motivated. The ANC said after the killing We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the loss of life of one of the countrys antiapartheid struggle veterans, through such senseless and mindless criminality. We urge law enforcement agencies to

Politician and clergyman slain

leave no stone unturned to ensure that those found responsible swiftly face the wrath of the law. Bishop Tolo was amongst the first generation of ANC cadres deployed to serve in the first democratically elected Parliament following the historic 1994 elections. He served in various structures of the ANC Caucus and Parliament, including as a Whip and member of the portfolio committee on correctional services. COPE said Mr Jack Tolo was born on 21 November 1948. His untimely death, he was cruelly murdered by the hand of as yet unidentified intruders at his home early this morning, has robbed his family, his friends, his comrades and his community, as well as the people of South Africa in general, of a patriot, a gentleman and a leader. He leaves behind his wife, Salome, 7 children and 10 grandchildren, a family of over 20 in all. Bishop Tolo, served in the leadership of the Apostolic Church since the 1970s, was an MP since 1994 and prior to that had worked in democratic organisations since the mid 1970s, when he joined the ANC. In 2009 he was one of the first people to join the Congress of the People. In Parliament he served on the Defence and Correctional Services Committees, where he was diligent and always on top of issues. Bishop Tolos life was rooted in his community, where lived. He was an active MP and always had time for his neighbours, his colleagues and his comrades. A kind, gentle man, he was also a firm believer in discipline. Bishop Tolo was a working class man and he never forgot his roots. He worked on the land as a tractor driver, on a dairy farm and as a driver before he became an MP in 1994. Ntate Tolo will be sorely missed by all in the Congress of the People. The DA said The Democratic Alliance (DA) is deeply saddened by the sudden death of COPE MP Jack Tolo, and wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the leaders and members of COPE, and to Mr Tolos extended family. Our thoughts are with Mr Tolos wife and children in particular, who were present during the robbery in which their husband and father was fatally wounded. Mr Tolos execution-style murder demonstrates the deep disregard that the perpetrators of this senseless act have for the value of human life. At this time of loss, we must come together as a nation and take a decisive stand against the scourge of violent crime that affects our country, and continues to rob South Africans of their freedom. District Executive Mayor, Cllr Mogobo David Magabe also reacted strongly to the murder, saying Sekhukhune District Municipality wishes to send its heart-felt condolences to the family of the slain Bishop Jack Tolo, as the political journey which started in 1968 to 2011 has ended. Our condolences goes to Tolos family in particular his elder son Kubane Tolo who is an employee of one of our local municipalities in Sekhukhune District. We urge all the people of Sekhukhune District Municipality to remain calm and allow our security agencies to clamp-down on the perpetrators of this barbaric killing of our anti-apartheid hero and veteran of our struggle for freedom. As the ANCled Sekhukhune District Municipality, we say one death is one too many, we urge the police to act swiftly and bring the killers to book and MAY THE SOUL OF BISHOP JACK TOLO REST IN PEACE. Mr Tolo will be buried at the weekend.

Road safety awareness at Mototolo

Due to recent accidents on the Thorncliffe Road, Mototolo Mine decided that there should be some awareness towards road safety. On the 19th of August 2011, Mototolo SD team started the day with a thrill of excitement as they were about to address this issue. The whole SD Team arrived on the dedicated campaign site at 04h00, the men started the braais, putting up the gazebos, the water tunnel, whilst the ladies together with Phoenix Flying Squad organised the layout of the campaign as per plan. R&P Panel beaters, Netcare 911 and the Fire Brigade all came to assist with this campaign. Once all the SLAM AND SEEP Characters were in place, the faces were painted, the pretend injured guy was parked next to the road and the responsibilities were clearly defined, all were ready for the oncoming traffic. And so an adventure started whereby the cars were stopped at a marked off area, the security guards checked if vehicle drivers safety belts were worn, that the vehicle licence were not expired and that people were not talking on their cell phones whilst driving. If the safety belt were not worn, the driver was instructed to put on their safety belt, and if the vehicle licence were expired, the drivers were warned to go and renew it as soon as possible. If all were in place, a green card was shown to the mimic ladies who displayed a thumbs up sign, which gave the Stop/Go lady an indication that all is in place and the vehicle may proceed. All drivers that were stopped received a Road Safety Rule card and a delicious, warm worsroll. The Road Safety rule card clearly indicates, that all should follow a safe following distance, always keep to the speed limit, dont overtake on a solid line, dont talk on your cell phone and always wear a safety belt. The aim of the day was to show all people travelling on the Thorncliffe road, that Mototolo Mine care about the safety of others and that all must ensure that they comply to the road rules.Mototolo Mine would like to thank, Phoenix Security, R & P Panel beaters, The Fire Brigade and Netcare 911 for all their assistance in making this campaign a huge success.(Photographs and information: Mototolo Platinum Mine).

Will you go casual next week Friday?

Next week Friday, 2 September South Africa will be casual about their dress code but serious about disability. It will be Casual Day. This day is a fundraising event based on the concept that you wear anything as long as you wear the official Casual Day sticker. Money raised through this effort goes to organisations rendering services to persons with disabilities. The 2011 campaign, themed around outfits that rockstars have popularised over the decades, suggests that you cast off your everyday threads and dress yourself in a way that sets free your inner rockstar. The stickers are available for a donation of R10 and last year a record R18 026 000 was raised through the campaign. Stickers are available from ABSA, Game, and all Edcon stores countrywide. These include the following stores: Jet, Jet Mart, Jet Shoes, Boardmans, Edgars, Red Square, Legit, Discom, CNA, Temptations and Prato. Mr Johan Viljoen, National Director of the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities (NCPPDSA) says: Casual Day is a highlight on the calendar for the 270 beneficiary organisations who participated in the project. The money is deployed in many areas, including job creation, poverty alleviation, social upliftment, housing and education. Not only does it raise funds, it also raises awareness in a fun way, of the needs of the community. Funds raised this year will be distributed to the following six national beneficiaries: NCPPDSA, Disabled People of South Africa (DPSA), SA National Council for the Blind, SA Federation for Mental Health, Deaf Federation of SA (Deafsa) and Epilepsy SA. We asked readers whether they will support and participate in Casual Day next week and whether they think the money raised eventually also reach people living locally with disabilities?

Mr Piet Mashaba and Ms Sarah Mashaba said: We are going to support it. We want our money to come back here. Links: Me. By haar is Ancke. Mr Rushi Nyati said: Ja, for sure. Ill be wearing a preachers gown this year. Last year the one lady I work with was pregnant and she came to work dressed like a nun. It was very funny. The money must come back to our area as well - even if it is through structures. My mom works at Rehlahleng School for Disabled. I think they only get a bit of support from Xstrata and can sure do with a bit more help. With him is Nontando.

By haar is Genevive.

Ms. Eleonore Maccheries said: My company cant let me dress funny, we fit tyres and I wear overalls.

Mr Solly Maphosa said: I will definitely support the day. My girlfriend already told me shell buy our stickers. The money raised in Limpopo, should come to Limpopo.

Me. Susan von Benecke s: Ek sal dit ondersteun.

Ms Maria Majatsela said: Im gonna dress casual for the day. The money must come more into our area. There are many people who need help.

Mnr.

Praktiseer Local Football Association launched

We are trying to develop football locally, that is the reason why Mr Edward Mpheti and his committee launched the Praktiseer Local Football Association. They already have six teams who paid the R200 SAFA registration fee, but have more than 8 still waiting for their funds so that they can register before end of August as required. They will be playing according to SAFA fixtures, but the games will be at various grounds within Praktiseer. Local teams who wish to get in touch with the committee and would like to register for this local league can contact Juda Shaku on 076 646 4678 or Mpheti on 082 867 1434.
