Health 2.0s original tag line of user-generated healthcare contains the germ of a compelling ideapatients are using new tools to guide their own care. Now, as doctors, patients, and health care organizations are all starting to use a new generation of online and mobile technologies, these tools are fundamentally changing the way health care works. The Health 2.0 Conference is the leading showcase of cutting-edge technologies in health care, including Online Communities, Search and lightweight Tools for consumers to manage their health and connect to providers online. Matthew Holt and Indu Subaiya collaborated to organize the first Health 2.0 conference in September 2007 in San Francisco. Health 2.0 has been featured in The New York Times, the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Huffington Post, on CNN, CBS News, and in the healthcare trade press. The Washington Post called the conference a high-energy gathering of great minds Now many conferences on, Health 2.0 has become the place to see and be seen for the leaders in health care technology. In addition Health 2.0 has set up a non-profit industry consortium, the Health 2.0 Accelerator, and a research consulting service, Health 2.0 Advisors. But above all Health 2.0 remains a venue where innovation in technology is introduced and ground-breaking ideas are shared to drive change in the health care system. UNIQUE CONFERENCE FORMAT The Health 2.0 conference focuses on what works in the context of the United Statess evolving healthcare system, and what the boundary-less online world means for consumers and physicians working in distinct healthcare systems. The unique conference format features rapid-fire technology demos, provocative keynotes, and interactive discussions. This year, pre-conference activities include a two-day code-a-thon! A signature of the Health 2.0 conferences, Launch!, enables start-ups to perform live demos of debuting technologies that will shape the future of healthcare. Also featured are Deep Dive sessions where sponsors choose a theme, invite up to ten participants, and moderate their own workshop session.
BUILDING AN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY ONLINE In 2008, a Health 2.0 Group was created on LinkedIn as well as a vibrant Facebook page, both showcasing interesting developments from the Health 2.0 Blog. The Health 2.0 Blog is a group blog where anyone in the Health 2.0 Community is invited to contribute. The Health 2.0 Network is an active attendee list, ongoing social network, and messaging system for those who have been at the conferences, whether in Europe or the U.S. This tool fosters direct business connections and active involvement from the Health 2.0 community, no matter their geographical base.

Code-a-thon
Health 2.0s live, daylong code-a-thon brings together developers, designers and raw data sets to build exciting new applications and tools for improved health care. Developers, designers and other stakeholders are given an overview of health care issues, tools and data sets, and are asked to design new tools for the health care space. Developers are encouraged to use OpenGov data sets as well as private data sets to create their application. At the end of the code-a-thon, developers present their application to the group, and the best solution receives an award. Also featured: Health 2.0 101 Session New to the Health 2.0 market? Need of an overview before diving into the conference? This year, for the first time ever, the Health 2.0 Developer Challenge Code-a-thon will feature both a Health 2.0 101 curriculum and tech talks from industry leaders! NOTE: This code-a-thon is scheduled for the weekend, with the prize-winner continuing on with the winners of other code-a-thons on Monday 26th & Tuesday 27th.

Subaiya
Co-Founder
and
CEO
Indu Subaiya, MD, MBA, is a healthcare consultant and entrepreneur who started following Web 2.0 trends and their impact on health as she embarked on designing a prototype for a medical record-sharing website. In December 2006, she co-founded Health 2.0: User Generated Healthcare, a first-of-its-kind forum showcasing leading edge digital media, web and mobile technologies in healthcare. Health 2.0 has now evolved into an annual event on two continents, with a worldwide community and network of participants from all sectors involved in healthcare. Additionally, she is the creator and director of the Health 2.0 Developer Challenge, which seeks to bring the Health 2.0 Community together for rapid application development. Indu started her career in health technology assessment as the director of outcomes research at Quorum Consulting, Inc. where she conducted Phase III-IV quality of life and pharmacoeconomic studies and advised life science clients on commercialization and reimbursement strategies. She then served as vice president of healthcare and biomedical research at Gerson Lehrman Group, an investment research firm where she facilitated due diligence research in the life sciences sector for investment fund managers. Most recently she was entrepreneur-in-residence at Physic Ventures, where she helped evaluate companies in the consumer health space and incubated a start-up focused on online medical records. Indu received her MD from Stony Brook University School of Medicine at the State University of New York, an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and a BS in Science and Technology Studies from Cornell University. Indu is also vice president of the Society for Participatory Medicine.
