Why High Tech industries not suitable for Sri lanka

What is high tech industry?

High tech industries are industries where it use high level of technologies for their manufacturing process.

Capital?
problem how we start such a high tech industry which needs lot of capital at the start. Sri lanka is a developing country.so it mainly depend on foreign aids.Sri lanka also has low GDP value. So if sri lanka wish to establish high tech industries. Sri lanka has to invest millions on that. But it may take lot of time to earn profit from them.also there is a fair possibility to close these industries before earn any rupee from it.Then country would face to huge economic crysis. The purpose of bringing down high tech industries into sri lanka is low labour cost with high technology. But Arrival of those high tech industries which are established in those developed countries ,are not given these benefits for our country which is currently developing country. Population Growth ? When we consider population growth of Sri lanka with respect to time(table 1) you can see dramatic increment of population. Sri lanka is a very small country

SRI LANKA

Size :

62,705 sq. Km 19.252 million

(Male - 48% / Female - 51.9%)

Total Population:

Density per sq. Km. 309 persons

Growth rate 1.3%
(2004 est.)

Table 1

Therefore we have to think about the specially the area which is suitable for people to live. lot of high tech industries are large scale industries So if we try to estabilish such kind of industry in Sri lanka we lost lot of problems rather than its benefit such as Very valuable land Fresh environment etc

But we dont say high tech industries completely not suitable for Sri lanka. Because as the population growth the countrys needs and wants go higher. As a country with open economy we dont produce our own needs within our country. So we are importing our needs from other countries. When population grows lot of money needed for this process. We are earning money for this process by exporting our products. To make more money we need to increase our productivity and also we have to consider about new industries which are effectively brings money to the country such as electronic industry, software industry, power industry etc. So in order to do these two objectives the ultimate tool is to using the high technologies for our industries

Environmental Pollution

Maintains?

Normally, Sri Lanka is a third world developing country. Actually we have not sufficient technology, as well as we have no any high technology maintain or developing methods. So we import all these high technologies from well -developed countries. Let consider, there is some high tec industry in Sri Lanka. Normally for install high-tec industry needs high asset. It may be Billions of US$. So as a third world developing country we have not that much money. First of all we should consider about all these things. If there is any failure or break down we have to wait for technological knowledge or instruction from forign countries. If these instruction is too late. What happen for the industry future..? We have to beg.Otherwise we have to pay huge of money for reinstall. It may be unbearable situation as like country of Sri Lanka. The liberalization of the economy in 1977 was largely prompted by the perceived inefficiency of the public sector, not by any ideological commitment to free enterprise. As a result of this lot of forign companies came here for invest in Sri Lanka. But those all most all of the multy national companies did their job with respect to themselves. They never give us real technology for us. So how we start high-tec industry in Sri-Lanka. If we start with ourselves, with own money, with our technological knowledge we can do anything.
