The Blind Leading the Blind

Enforcer:___________________________
Please circle your name!

Assembler: _________________________
Director: ___________________________

Your objective: To put together a puzzle - in a slightly different way. Each group will need a director, a
blindfolded assembler, and an enforcer (who will enforce the rules in another group).
Directions: Have one member of your group come to the front and obtain a blindfold. Blindfold one member of
the group. After blindfolding, obtain a puzzle from the teacher. Also at this time have the "enforcer" come up to
the teacher to be assigned to another group. The blindfolded member of the group must assemble the puzzle
correctly with the director only being able to give verbal directions. The director is NOT allowed to position
pieces, touch the blindfolded member, or do anything other than give verbal directions.
Enforcer

NOTE: The blindfolded member and director must sit

opposite each other. The enforcer should sit to the side
of them, and make sure the other two stay "legal". See
diagram to the right.

In your group, discuss and ANALYZE your success (or failure), and some of the problems that you had when
trying to assemble the puzzle, and some of the ways other groups may have tried to "cheat". You may also want
to discuss other groups' techniques that you saw or ideas you thought of later.
- Now, get a whiteboard and marker. Make sure all group members' names are in the corner of the whiteboard,
and (1) write down either one way you think you could have improved or one problem with your group's
performance. (2) Then write down one success your group had or one successful strategy you were able to see.
1) Improvement:

2) Success or successful strategy:

After our 'board meeting', combine what you heard with what you think and see to analyze the type
thinking that allowed groups to be successful in this activity. Also note whether this type of thinking is
different in any way from what you normally do in school. Is it valuable? Is it easy, hard or just different?
Try and give thought and reasons in your answers.
