CURRENT POSITION

UNESCO
 Following education, skills, science, health, well-being, equality and migration at OECD and edu-
cation and science at UNESCO.
 Main focus of my work is related to aspects of equity in and through education, as well as meas-
urement and indicators, science–policy interface, and evidence-based policy.
 I am a Member of the Governing Board (2022-2026) of UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS)
 I served as the head of Finnish delegation in intergovernmental negotiations on the text of the
Unesco recommendation on Ethics of Artificial intelligence, and Recommendation on open sci-
ence).

RESEARCH PORTFOLIO, FUNDING AND GRANTS


My research career focused on developing measurement and analytics methods for studying social inter-
actions. We studied dyadic and group interactions in music, dance, conversations and games. We devel-
oped methods for measuring various physiological and neural signals (movement, eye-tracking,
EEG/MEG…) and collecting qualitative data from people playing music, dancing etc., to understand how
we coordinate with each other and how we can achieve mutual understanding, synchronisation of move-
ments and empathy. I also had a strong focus on science communication and open science.
Kone Foundation, Social eMotions - exploring the dynamics of emotional interactions using contempo-
rary dance and movement science. 2-year research project for a team of 3 researchers and 2 choreogra-
pher-dancers, 4 support staff/composer/musicians, awarded December 2014, value 120 560€.
Helsingin Sanomat Centennial Foundation, Research scholarship for Ph.D. Studies. Awarded March
2003 and November 2005, duration 2+1 years, value 45 000 €.
Arts and Humanities Research Council, Fees-only award for Ph.D. Studies in the University of Cam-

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
2006–12 University teacher in musicology, planning and teaching courses (from 1st year to master’s
level) in musicology, music education, music therapy, and Music, Mind & Technology. Responsible for
curriculum development as a member of the Teaching Development Group. I co-authored an online re-
search methods resource for humanities, being responsible for the quantitative methods sec-
tions: Mapping Research Methods http://bit.ly/11g4N1. University Pedagogical Training programme
at Aalto University.
