Whats New in the 2011/2012 Shelter Season
In preparation for the upcoming shelter season we are pleased to announce two new programs! First is a computer lab which will allow the men staying at the shelter to update their resumes and search for and submit online employment applications. We are working with a local Rotary Club to obtain donations of quality used equipment. We are planning to have three computers with internet access and a printer available onsite. The second program is a pilot program that will utilize the housing component of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP) in collaboration with an employment component. We are working with an agency that will provide employment workshops and possibly an opportunity for on the job training. As a pilot program we are only making this opportunity available to 2 or 3 individuals this season. We are excited about the additional programs that we will have available for the individuals who utilize the shelter.

Ferrari Family Foundation Challenge Update

In our March newsletter we announced the John & Jeani Ferrari Family Foundation challenge inviting other private foundations, and individuals in our community to meet or exceed their $7,500.00 donation. To date we have received $4,909.24 which is about a 65% of our projected goal. Our thanks everyone who has generously donated to the We Care Program and encourage those who are committed to seeing us match or exceed our goal to make a donation by filling out the form on the back of this newsletter. Your continued support as a caring and committed community is instrumental in providing services for our homeless in Turlock.
We Cares mission is to provide transitional and emergency shelter, day center resources, and support services in collaboration with other agencies to assist homeless individuals in becoming self-sufficient.

HPRP UPDATE
The Stanislaus County HPRP Program has helped over 30 individuals to obtain or retain housing in the past twenty months. Sixteen of those individuals had previously utilized shelter services. To date over 85% of those who previously used shelter services have maintained their housing.

SHELTER NEEDS
Thank you for your continued support in helping to meet the needs of the shelter and its residents. For the upcoming shelter season the We Care Program needs donations of the following items: laundry detergent and bleach as sheets are washed and sanitized daily. Dish soap and dish towels as the men wash and dry the dinner dishes nightly. Twin size sheets and blankets, bath towels, hand towels. Mens sleepwear, underwear, and socks. Bar soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors.

Volunteer Opportunity
In response to the cuts in federal funding and current economic environment the We Care Program finds itself in the position of having to raise funds to cover expenses traditionally paid through grant funding. We are looking for interested volunteers to form a fundraising committee that would organize and conduct fundraising efforts on behalf of our agency. This committee will work with the We Care board , the director, and the shelter manager to coordinate at least one major fundraising event per calendar year.
