Principal Investigator 2005-2008 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA As a co-PI with Dr. Mary Lynn Boscardin, the Crossroads program is a 4 year $800,000 grant funded by the U.S. DOE Office of Special Education. The purpose of this grant is to identify and support future K-12 special education leaders through coursework, advising, and multiple field placements. Principal Investigator 2007-2008 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator on a Massachusetts Department of Education SAELP (State Action for Education Leadership Project) grant for $81,952.00. The grant is funding a study of the principal preparation gap in the state of Massachusetts. Principal Investigator 2006-2007 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator on a Massachusetts Department of Education SAELP (State Action for Education Leadership Project) grant for $11,200.00. The grant is funding the coordination of the MA DOA ACCEPT Educational Collaborative. This collaborative functions as a steering committee for the Massachusetts Data Warehouse Project. Principal Investigator 2007-Not Funded University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator along with Steve Sereci and Sharon Rallis on a four year National Science Foundation (Applied Research- Studies of Teachers and Teaching) grant for $350,000.00 each year for three years. The study sought to understand the psychometric properties, the use of, and links to student achievement on state and national tests to various formative assessment systems in three states (Massachusetts, Texas, and Florida). Principal Investigator 2006-2007 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator along with Steve Sereci on a Massachusetts Department of Education SAELP (State Action for Education Leadership Project) grant for $79,500.00. The study investigated the use of formative assessments in three Massachusetts school districts. Principal Investigator 2006- NOT FUNDED University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Co- principal investigator along with Mary Lynn Boscardin and a team from the University of Kansas and the University of Florida on a four-year U.S. DOE Office of Special Education grant to train principal leaders. The grant was called EXCELSIOR (The Executive Center for Educational Leadership, School Improvement, Opportunities, and Results for Students with Disabilities). The grant was written for over $1 million a year.

Faculty Advisor 2006-2007 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Faculty representative on a University of Massachusetts Outreach Innovation Fund for $25,000.00 (Joe Berger, PI). The grant enabled the researchers to conduct a needs assessment in conjunction with Shaanxi Normal University in five northwest provinces of China. The needs assessment focused on higher educational faculty as well as K-12 administrators and teachers. Faculty Advisor 2006-2009 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Battle Creek, MI Faculty representative on a Kellogg Foundation funded longitudinal study of KLCC (Kellogg Leadership for Community Change)- $350,000.00. Under the direction of the PI, Maenette Benham, Michigan State University, data will be collected and analyzed in six KLCC national sites. Principal Investigator 2005-2007 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator on a $40,000 grant through the College Boards K12 Office of Research and Analysis to support the College Boards National Office for School Counselor Advocacy (NOSCA). Specifically, we conducted a study to identify and document exemplary practices of 18 high schools that have received Inspiration Awards or Honorable Mentions in 2004 through 2005. Faculty Advisor 2005-2006 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Faculty representative on a Massachusetts Department of Education SAELP (State Action for Education Leadership Project) grant for $59,708.00 (Kathryn McDermott, PI). The study investigated the distribute leadership practices in two Massachusetts school districts identified as outperforming their demographics. Principal Investigator 2005-2006 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Principal Investigator for the evaluation of the CRISTAL Project. CRISTAL represents Western Massachusetts 170b state data warehouse grantees. The grant award for the evaluation was $7500.00. Principal Investigator 2005-2006 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA PI on a $1500.00 grant from the University of Massachusetts Presidents Office on Information Technology. This grant will fund efforts to infuse the use of instructional technology in the classroom. PI on a $10,000 University of Massachusetts Public Service Endowment Grant. The grant will support research and consultation with three area school districts participating in the Cooperative Regional Information Storage for Teaching and Learning. During the 2005-06 academic year, I will work with the districts in their attempt to select a data warehouse vender and to establish data teams. Principal Investigator 2006- Not Funded University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA PI along with Dr. Linda Griffin, a $25,000.00 grant application has been submitted to the Office of the Vice Provost under the Research Leadership in Action Program. The request for funds includes a $25,000.00 match from a private donor to create an annual Summer Education Data Institute on campus. The institute will include a gathering of experts in the research community as well as professional development seminars for K-12 educators. Principal Investigator 2005- Not Funded University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Co-PI along with Dr. Mike Malone, Dean of the College of Engineering and Dr. Soren Bisgaard, Eugene M. Isenberg Professor in the School of Management, an RFP was submitted to the National Science Foundation for a $600,000.00 Innovation Grant. This grant would have supported an entrepreneur course at the University and at the High School of Science and Technology in Springfield. In addition, the grant would have been utilized to support an business/university roundtable. Principal Investigator 2005- Not Funded US DOE Institute of Educational Sciences Washington, DC The Center for Policy and Research in Education CPRE aimed to evaluate the influence of a statewide implementation of a leadership development program called the National Institute of School Leadership (NISL) over fives years ($3.5 million). The PIs on the project included: Jon Supovitz, James Spillane, and Eric Camburn. My qualitative evaluation work involves developing district scans and stories from the field with colleagues Susan Moore-Johnson and Lee Teitel. Faculty Advisor 2004-2005 University of Massachusetts- Amherst Amherst, MA Consultant and instructor on a U.S. D.O.E. Office of Innovation grant for an alternative principal license program in the Holyoke Public School System under the direction on Dr. Jeffery Eiseman, principal investigator. Research Assistant 2004-Present Michigan State University East Lansing, MI Working with the newly formed U.S./China Center for Educational Research. The center along with a center in China will develop a research agenda in five areas: teaching and learning, family and the child, educational technology, curriculum, and leadership and governance. I worked on two pieces for the leadership group: leadership in an era of accountability and an historical account of educational leadership and practice through a Western paradigm.

Research Assistant 2003-2004 Michigan State University East Lansing, MI The Kellogg Foundation contracted a team from Michigan State University (Dr. Maenette Benham) and the University of Michigan (Dr. Richard Price) to conduct an evaluation of the Kellogg Leadership for Community Change (KLCC) project in six U.S. cities. As a graduate research assistant I conducted interviews while on site visits. I also developed a website to warehouse data and to collect on-line data. The evaluation team continues to draft technical reports and provide presentations to individual sites and Kellogg. Research Assistant 2003-2004 Michigan State University East Lansing, MI Assisted Dr. Maenette Benham, principal investigator, to assess the White House Initiative on Tribal Colleges and Universities (WHITCU). The work involved analyzing reports submitted from more than 30 federal agencies in regard to appropriations and activities to fulfill the WHITCU. Research Assistant 2002-2004 University of Minnesota Minneapolis, MN Under the direction of Dr. Scott McLeod, I assisted in the analysis of a national survey of school technology coordinators commissioned by the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory (NCREL). The study has expanded into an indepth analysis of a small sample of rural, urban, and suburban school technology coordinators. Research Assistant 2004 Michigan State University East Lansing, MI I was contracted to assist Dr. Susan Printy and Dr. Philip Cusick, principal investigators, to conduct a curricular evaluation of a local charter school. The inner-city school was in jeopardy of losing its charter. The work entailed conducting interviews, attending meetings, and reviewing documents in order to create a curricular synopsis of the school as well as a new curricular strategic plan.

Currently working with one area school district in the development of the superintendents principal evaluation tool. Additionally, I work with a district data team to improve the uses of formative assessments for educational decision-making. Consultant 2006-2007 Granby Public Schools Granby, MA Currently working with a data team from the Granby Public Schools. Monthly meetings are held to conduct assessment audits (scope and sequence) and to help district teachers understand the utility of formative assessments.
