Act III: Love Will Ruin

Between 2007 and 2011, Juno-nominated recording artist Daniel Victor went to work on the long awaited Act III "Love Will Ruin" record. Victor produced nearly seventy-five songs for consideration over the course of three years in his home studio, and painstakingly selected only his favourite tracks to be included on the new release. Victor states that "every song has to take you somewhere, every song has to hit you, and every song has to make you close your eyes and get chills. I tested these on myself, and these are the songs that have stood up for me." Fresh off a # 1 video at Much Music for his recent Hip-Hop/Alternative collaboration with J Diggz, and having just brought home the MMVA for Best Independent Video Of The Year, Victor has yet to announce who he's worked with for the new album. It's been rumoured that he was recently in the studio with the Canadian pop star LIGHTS, indie-favourites Hot Hot Heat, epic rockers Pilot Speed, and hard rock veterans Deftones. The official announcement will be made on his website this September. The brand new single, "Falling Apart" was in heavy rotation throughout the summer. It features a stunning vocal performance by Victor's new discovery and recent label signing, Bed of Stars from Vancouver. The track is a new direction musically, "it's the rockiest thing we've ever done" says the NWL frontman. "It's a great way to kick of our new direction." NWL's special brand of melancholic/pop/rock will come to life as they head out on the road to play a few dates this fall.

SKULL FIST, hailing from Canada, are the metal sensation of 2011! Anyone thinking that there aint any true, traditional Heavy Metal out there needs to check out the SKULL FIST EP Heavier Than Metal! With their latest album, Svartsot journeys to a 14th century Denmark ravished by the plague. The tracks on "Maledictus Eris" describe the fate of those confronted with the horrors of the Black Death. The Danish folk metal masters envelop these dark tales with sweeping mid-tempo rhythms that revel in appealing Nordic folk melodies. While the authentic folk instruments take center stage in this latest production, the band never loses sight of its metal roots. Lasse Lammert of LSD Studios ultimately makes sure that driving drums and heavy guitars effortlessly unite with the sound of flutes and bagpipes to achieve Svartsot's characteristic sound. As a result, melodic headbanging tracks such as "Ddedansen" an "Holdt ned af en Tjrn" will unquestionably find their place on the band's permanent setlist. The concept of "Maledictus Eris" ("Cursed Thou Shall Be") also flows over into the album's impressive artwork, as Gyula Havancsk (Tyr, Grave Digger,) is able to masterfully capture the somber atmosphere. "Maledictus Eris" presents a more mature band and will not only appeal to fans of the genre, but rather convince others of its high standard. A history lesson like no other!
