Due to rising waters associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee, highway department officials along with local and state police in Schoharie County are making road closures as necessary in order to protect public safety. Residents in Schoharie County should check their route before traveling. If they are in a safe area they should avoid traveling until water levels recede. The following roads have been reported to the Incident Management Team as being closed. This listing includes roads that were damaged by Hurricane Irene and the roads that have been closed due to the rains that began impacting the area on September 7. Town, county and state resources will continue to assess road conditions and will reopen roads when they are safe to do so. The rains from September 7 that are continuing today mainly resulted in minor flooding of roads. Residents can check on State Road closures by visiting the New York State Department of Transportation website at www.511ny.org or they can call 511. Road closures are being enforced by Local Law Enforcement, County Sheriff, State Police, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Officers, and NYC Department of Environmental Protection Law Enforcement Officers.
