Action Planning Template

Goal: Implement a 1:1 laptop initiative, and measure whether this increases student engagement, test scores, and technology literacy in 8th and 9th graders.
Action Step(s) 1 - Examining the work: My site supervisor is the districts assistant superintendent, and responsible for finance and technology. After much discussion of 1:1 issues, the project was narrowed down to implementing the 1:1 initiative for 8th & 9th grade, and evaluating the results. 2 - Analyze the data: Gather data from multiple sources regarding student discipline, achievement, and technology literacy in existing 8th & 9th graders. View existing research in EdTech regarding effectiveness of 1:1 programs. 3 - Developing deeper understanding: Based on the data, determine which types of technology integration are likely to be most effective. 4 - Engaging in self-reflection: During the course of this project, I will be in constant contact with our technology integration specialists, and tech committees on the two campuses. Using their thoughts and opinions as additional input, I will continue to reflect on the projects progress. Reflections will be posted on our LMS where staff has access to read and comment. 5- Exploring programmatic patterns: Staying in touch with the key players, and allowing all faculty to comment on the blog, may lead to recognition Person(s) Responsible Suzie Steckly, site mentor Timeline: Start/End Aug 25-Sept 8, 2011 Needed Resources Time, meetings, email & online discussions. Blog, surveys

Surveys and blog comments are used as formative

of patterns in how the technology is being used effectively or ineffectively. As ongoing data is collected throughout the year, the committees and/or principals may wish to emphasize some aspects of the accompanying professional development program to achieve desired results in technology integration. 6 -Determining the direction: This is the opportunity to make sure we are keeping our eye on the ball. All involved parties will be constantly reminded of the goals: Increased engagement, achievement, and tech literacy. The teachers and integration specialist will help develop and follow a reasonable timeline. As ongoing data is collected throughout the year, the committees and/or principals may wish to emphasize some aspects of the accompanying professional development program to achieve desired results.. 7 - Taking action for school improvement: The process begins The research begins with providing professional development immediately. Policies and processes are being developed for student laptop use. Surveys and blog comments will be used to adjust the direction of the project as needed, and a summative technology assessment will be administered at the end of the spring semester. Before and after comparisons of the data will show us what has worked, and where we need to continue improvement. 8 -Sustaining improvement: In addition to evaluating the project by comparing data, I will continue researching to determine what factors make our 1:1 program successful. Even if we are successful in achieving our goals, 1:1 laptop distribution in the current funding climate is difficult to maintain. As part of our ongoing commitment to student achievement, we will continue learning what others have done successfully, and how it can be applied to our district. I will also continue to investigate how new strategies such as Bring Your Own Device or tablet learning can continue the benefits of 1:1 while reducing the costs.
