COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course familiarizes students with the subject of transportation engineering. The course includes Airports Engineering, Railways Engineering and Coastal Engineering covering aircraft characteristics and computation of runway length, configuration of airports, and geometric standards of runways / taxiways .It also gives a clear understanding of the basic elements, features, functioning etc of ports and railways. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Basic understanding of all aspects of location and planning of airports with specific reference to runways, taxiways and surrounding areas to the extent a civil engineer is concerned. A clear concept of geometric standards of runways/ taxiways Basic knowledge of natural sea phenomenon, harbour works and port functioning. Basic knowledge of functioning of railway and a clear concept of elements of railway station and track.

Students are expected to work independently on the homework assignments. Homework assignments will be due at the beginning of the class period on the date specified. No assignments will be accepted after the due date, except in very exceptional circumstances. The mid-term examination will be held during class hours.
