)Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: Newspaper and Books We encounter newspapers and books everyday. We get information about the latest news from these printed words. We can also read printed records that have been kept of past events. It has not always been so easy to keep up with the news. In ancient times, news or information was passed on from one person to another. It was easier to remember the message if it was put to music. People would travel from place to place, singing the latest news. The problem was that often, by the time the news was heard at the other end of the country, it was already weeks or months old. Later, people learned to write, and sending news was much easier. Scribes, or writers, would put the news on paper and send it out to the country. Books that recorded history and other information also had to be written by hand. Although writing was much more effective, the news was still slow in arriving. To reach more people more quickly, many copies of the paper were made. The copies had to be written by hand and that was a difficult job. Books had to be duplicated in the same fashion and were much too expensive for the common man to own. In the 1450s, a German craftsman named Johannes Guttenberg introduced the first printing press into Europe. The printing press was able to print the same page the same way thousands of times!
