Childcare

Goal: Establishsolidpartnershipswithcommunityandchurchbasedchildcareproviderstosecure reservedslotsforCHNJmothers.Openaninhouselicensedchildcareprogramwithlicensed professionalsandtrainedvolunteers,whichcanalsoserveasapotentialrevenuegeneratorforthe agency(Newark). Update: ThevolunteerbabysittingmodelofchildcarewasreviewedbytheExecutiveTeam andapprovedforimplementation.InNorthJersey,theprogrammodelwas reviewedwithRLHstakeholdersinordertoconfirmthattherewerenolicensing concernswiththismodel.TheannouncementofBabyDoveClubtopotential volunteersisscheduledformidSeptember.InSouthJersey,ameetingwithSt. Andrewswasheldandnomajorissueswithmovingforwardwereidentified.In addition,theteamwillcomparethecostofthisproposaltothatofpurchasing childcarespacefromalicensedoperator. Trainings
Goal: Implementapractical,sustainableandapplicabletrainingprogramforalllevelsofstaffthat helpsallworkersbecomehighlyeffectiveandinstillsinourcultureaconsistentsetofprinciples, practicesandlanguageforundertakingourwork. Leader:BrianNelson Update: TheredesignedNewStaffOrientationhasbeenimplementedstatewideandwillbe reviewedforeffectivenessinOctober.Thestatewidetrainingteammembershave beenidentified,trainingshavebeenprioritizedandthecalendaroftrainingswill begininSeptember. DataCollection
Goal: Betteralignourinternaldatacollectionprocessandtechnology(i.e.HMIS)withwhatis requiredofusbygovernmentfundingsources Update: TheteamconfirmedtheHeadquartersislookingtopilotseveralCovenantHouse sitesusingtheETOsoftwaredatabase.CHNJhasbeenselectedasoneofthesites thatwillworkwithHeadquartersintestingthedatabaseovertime.Ifsuccessful, ETOcouldreplaceourexistingYouthTrackerdatabase.Inthemeantime,theteam willcontinuetogatherinformationpertainingtowhichofourfundersrequirethat weuseHMISsothatwegainanunderstandingoffuturefinancialriskwhen submittinggrantproposals. VocationalDevelopment
Goal: Developpartnershipswithemployersandapprenticeshipprogramsthatincreasethe employmentrateofouryoungpeople Update: TheteamisinprocessofclosingyearoneoftheYouthbuildProject,andisin theplanningstagesofYear2implementationsetforOctober.Theteamalso submittedaCustomerServiceTrainingproposalforbothAtlanticCityand NewarktotheBettinaRobertsFoundationandisawaitingfeedbackthatwill establishJobTrainingProgram.Onceestablished,CHNJcanapplytobecome anEligibleTrainingProvider(ETP)withtheNJDepartmentofLabor.EGT statuswillenableustoreceivetrainingreimbursementandWorkforceInvestment ActsOutofSchooltrainingcontracts.Theteamsecuredfundingfor15job placementinNewarkthroughtheFederalDept.ofLaborVocationalProject.

CasePlanning
Goal: Executeacollaborativecaseplanningsystembywhichstaff&youthcollaboratewitheach othertodevelopindividualizedplansthatgivestheyouththeskills,habitsandattitudesneededto preparethemforalifetimeoffulfillmentandselfsufficiency. Update: Theteamhasscheduledasoftskillstrainingtocomplimenttheplan developmentandimplementationtraining.

 SupportiveApartmentLiving(SAL)
Goal: Createa16unitSupportiveApartmentLivingProgramforyouthwhocanlive without24/7supervisionbutstillrequiresanaffordablehousingoptionandongoingcase managementsupport. Update: Theclosingdatefor24WalnutinNewarkisscheduledfoorSeptember1st. TheNewarkLeadershipteamisworkingtodraftanimplementationplan. BehavioralHealth
Goal: Update: InstituteafullBehavioralHealthTeamateachsite CHNJsMedicaidapplicationisstillpending.DMHShasnotreleasedanyRFPsfor whichCHNJisagoodfit.TheCHNJteamalsodiscoveredthatPATHfunded programswouldonlybenefityoungpeoplewithseriousmentalillness.Themajority ofCHNJclientsdonotfallintothatcategory.WereceivefundingfromtheUnited WayofAtlanticCountytomaintainexistingservices,butnotahighenoughlevelto expandAtlanticCitysmentalhealthservices.AtlanticCityreceivedanothersmall grantformentalhealthbutthiswasnotenoughtoleadtoexpansion.Theteam's goalofworkingwithacurrentfundertosupportthementalhealthservicesin AtlanticCitydidnotmaterialize.Instead,thefoundationisinterestedincontinuing tosupportCHNJ'smentalhealthservicesinNewark.Thedevelopmentteamwill continuetoaggressivelypursueallfundingopportunities.
