Currency symbols structure the worlds economic eco-system and signify local ethos and understanding. Often, they are the most powerful symbols of economic power, the new Rupee symbol for instance. India is one of the fastest growing economies and close to being an economic super-power. Her new currency symbol is a testimony of history in the making. What must support this emergence is management competence that is globally aligned. Quite like the GSIB manager. Trained in varied faculties of international trade, logistics and banking. And equipped to see the world as his/her natural office. His/Her evolved aptitude is seamlessly relevant across the borders; complementing the new global position of India.

Presidents Message
The rich cultural and academic ambience that it creates every year has become a benchmark for creating ambience in business schools.
The GITAM University School of International Business has over a period of slightly more than twelve years evolved as a School of Excellence offering three Post-Graduate Programmes, one certificate Programme, and two Research Programmes in International Business which draw students from different states of the country and some students even from abroad on exchange Programmes. The rich cultural and academic ambience that it creates every year has become a benchmark for creating ambience in business schools. Nevertheless, the School does not feel complacency and on the other hand continually changing for the better than the best. The faculty, students, and alumni constantly working under the stewardship of its Dean Prof V K Kumar deserve rich kudos. It is our desire that it would evolve as a model school of excellence for others in the GITAM University to emulate. It is precisely with this in our mind, the School is provided with centralized air-conditioning, latest state of the market technology, and other support systems. It is our plan to make the Post-Graduate Programmes residential and arrange for more interaction for students with the visiting faculty from industry and other leading business schools. It is our belief and conviction as well that such a 24X7 interaction would help the students learn optimally and process themselves industryready. The School has become sought-after even on other counts as well which include research, executive education, and consultancy. Slowly, but steadily, the School is internationalizing its faculty, students, and activities which is quintessential for a truly international business school. The location of the School within a serene and green campus with stunning beach-front is inviting for students and working executives to spend their time fruitfully. I invite you to the School and take full advantage of the rich resources created to develop skills and build a wonderful career for yourself. I look forward to meet you at Visakhapatnam described as a city of destiny.

The twenty-first century is also about globalization. While a lot about it is being written and discussed widely, many have not got the big picture yet. While not claiming any mastery on the subject, are certainly clear about one thing. We have got the big picture. We know what it takes to win in the emerging global market place. You need to be globally competent to succeed in the global market place. And global market place is not just international markets. Globalization is slowly but surely erasing the borders and boundaries between domestic and foreign markets. Whether you are competing in international markets or not, you are competing globally, because international brands are competing with your brands on the shelves of your departmental stores, hypermarkets, malls in your very own domestic market. Thats why global competencies are mandatory irrespective of whether you compete internationally or not.

and Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management in the third, fourth and fifth trimesters. The students undergo internship with business organizations for 8 weeks. The sixth trimester is devoted to advanced courses and Research Project / Business Plan with particular emphasis on practical application and self-study under the guidance of the faculty. The student will have a choice of two electives or Research Project / Business Plan with one elective.
Pedagogy
The teaching methodology is practical, hands-on and real-time, rather than merely theoretical. At every stage of the learning process, interface with the industry, interaction with practicing professionals and internship with Corporates is given precedence. Students are required to attend periodic seminars, symposia, workshops and trade fairs that can provide a far more comprehensive view of ground realities than any textbook can. This naturally gives our students the knowledge plus experience edge making them the first choice of prestigious Corporates.
Curriculum
We realize that global competitiveness is a prerequisite even for competitiveness in domestic markets. The Programme provides foundation in the basic management courses in the first two trimesters and focuses on in-depth training in conceptual and practical aspects of the subjects relating to International Business, International Banking & Finance

Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management have become the driving force for any organization to improve its efficiency and effectiveness in the global and highly competitive environment of the twenty-first century. It has two crucial functions, viz. the Physical function, concerned with production, storage and transportation, and the Market Mediation function, concerned with ensuring that variety of products reaches the market place, match with the customers expectations. Effective execution of these functions necessitates the implementation of several key processes such as a seamless manufacturing and logistics process, a dynamic new product development process, and a support and service process. It is equally important to understand key customer service criteria, define global performance metrics, benchmark the supply chain to uncover the best practices, and use decision support tools for optimal network design and management. The Two Year MBA (Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management) has considered the above needs and the future requirements of the industry in designing the most contemporary curriculum for the course, benchmarking with the best of its kind.

Social Project
Sensitization of students to social issues is one of the objectives of GITAM School of International Business (GSIB) and to make the students socially responsive, the School incorporated Social Project activities in its course work. It is matter of great satisfaction for the School that its approach in social projects has given result in creation of a voluntary social network group, Aptha by its students with a focus to serve the society. Aptha generates funds on its own (by selling old newspapers, souvenirs and by collecting donations from individual members) and uses the funds so collected for distribution of essential items to socially weaker sections in and around the city of Visakhapatnam. The voluntary organization created its own website, www.aptha. co.cc to carry on its activities. During the year, Aptha conducted various activities at Shanti Ashram, an Ashram for deaf & dumb students. It organized sports activities like Kabaddi, Khokho and Caroms for the inmates of the Ashram. To spur the creative talents of the physically-challenged students, they organized painting (water colour) competitions, creative painting competitions and shown

craft-making and motivational videos. Aptha members also visited an old-age home and spent time with the inmates by various entertainment activities and distributing essential items to the old. GSIB also carried out two Social Projects on September 14 and 15, 2009 covering nearby three villages with the objective of identifying the villagers who are interested in pursuing/developing small businesses. As the people may do their businesses without general understanding of business processes, the intention of the survey was to identify such aspirants and give them 3 to 6 days training in GSIB to establish small businesses or to improve their existing business. The students also conducted another survey to identify people with diabetes or having the symptoms of diabetes to facilitate such patients to undergo counseling/ treatment by Shankar Netralaya, Visakhapatnam. Subsequent to the survey, GSIB conducted a training programme to the villagers who expressed interest to carry out small business activities.
