Line Creek Conservation Area

Page 2
Line Creek Conservation Area

This shot was taken just north

of Barry Road from a street
built on land that used to look
like the proposed conserva-
tion area. Note the wooded
hilltop in the horizon.

This view is looking south to

the area of Barry Road. This
shot was taken from the side
walk on Barry Road at Line
Creek Parkway.

This is a pathway that will be

used for the Line Creek trail.
This area was surfaced
mined in the early 1900’s.

Page 3
Line Creek Conservation Area

What you see here is natural

5 acre wetland that nature
created after an old farm
pond dam was breached.

This is another view of the

wetland.

Another view of the wetland.

When this picture was taken,
there were 6 beaver dams in
a 500’ stretch of Line Creek.

Page 4
Line Creek Conservation Area

As you can see, the silted in

pond has created a lush
vegetated habitat. It would
cost millions of dollars to re-
create this type of habitat.

The proposed Line Creek

Trail is adjacent to the stream
and wetland and the winter
shot shows just how large the
wetland is.

Good winter view of the

stream and the width of the
wetland.

Page 5
Line Creek Conservation Area

This shot was taken inside

the wetland.

Another view. This pathway

was the access to the camp-
grounds around the old Dren-
non Lake which was a large
private recreation area with a
stop on the old Interurban
Line.

Sampling of vegetation along

the campground access path.

Page 6

This is an overall view that

shows the quality and pristine
nature of the Line Creek for-
est.

This shot is from the old Inter-

urban Line and shows the
meadow and stability of the
stream bank vegetation.

Picture of valley meadow op-

posite the other pictures.

Page 7
Line Creek Conservation Area

This is a sample of the quality

and size of the forest. The
large tree you see is one of
many 100+ year old Bur
Oaks that litter the landscape.

This shot shows the valley

and how expansive it is. The
old lake would be just to the
right.

Again, note the expanse of

the valley and how similar it
looks to southern Missouri.

Page 8

This is sediment pond cre-

ated by the Drennon Lake
owners to protect the lake
and keep the water clear so
that people would continue to
return to fish and camp.

Shot of the sediment bay in

the fall.

This is a shot to the north

which shows again how ex-
pansive the valley is.

Page 9

Another shot showing a large

Bur Oak on the right.

This shot shows the depth of

the valley and Line Creek. To
the left of the picture is where
the old Interurban Line
crossed Line Creek.

These Bur Oaks are just a

sampling of over 50 trees that
are over 100 years old that
are clustered on a 40 acre
tract.

acre tract and a sampling of
the quality of growth under
the ancient tree canopy.

Shot of the large trees in the

spring. Note all of the large
species in the background.

Another massive old oak.

quality of the stream banks.

Shot in winter.

This shot shows the lowland

area which has a large clus-
ter of Sycamore trees. The
old Interurban Line is on the
right side of the picture.

stream bank vegetation.

Another shot from the Interur-

ban.

Another shot of the high-

quality stream bank.

Shot of meadow. Creek is in

the background.

This shot is from a nearby de-

velopment that is shows how
endangered this area is.
Note the creek and how the
Sycamores stand out along
the creek compared to previ-
ous shot.

In the middle of the picture is

a Missouri Bluebird. This is
the only place that I have
seen these endangered spe-
cies in Platte County.
