On his accession to the throne on 23rd July, 1970, his Majesty Sultan Bin Qaboos

Sultanate of Oman. He swept aside the restriction of the
past, and devoted the resources in the treasury to bring
about the rapid social and economic transformations of
the king. The new national currency has been able to pay a
constructive role in the development of Oman, from the
country that had scarcely in thousands year into a
dynamic society which has succeeded in achieving sound
economic growth while preserving the best of its deepest-rooted national and
cultural traditions.

One of his Majesty’s first acts was to unite nations by changing the name of the
country from the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman to the Sultanate of Oman, the name which is
used on his currency. Then on 22nd April, 1971(1391 h), the country became the member of
both the international monitory Fund and the World Bank.
