Product information mobile phone preparation

Introduction
The mobile phone preparation means suitable mobile phones can be connected to the car and operated using 1 the optional multifunctional steering wheel. Pairing the mobile phone with the mobile phone preparation is done via the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP). Before the mobile phone can be paired with the mobile phone preparation a one-off discovery and identification process has to be performed. Refer to your car user manual to find out more about the pairing procedure. A brief description of the pairing process can be found at the end of this document. Functionality may be restricted because Volkswagen cannot guarantee that the firmware in the mobile phones is bugfree, especially considering that the implementation of the Bluetooth standard differs considerably between the various mobile phones and that the mobile phone firmware releases are also subject to change. Volkswagen is not liable for any restriction in functionality that may result when using the mobile phone with the mobile phone preparation. On the other hand, this is why selected mobile phones and firmware releases are continuously tested for compatibility with the mobile phone preparation.

Basics
For the full functionality of the recommend mobile phones in the car an adapter set (mobile phone cradle) is needed to assure proper snap fit, phone charging and connection to the external antenna.. For design reasons compatibility with mobile phone accessories such as special batteries, accessory antenna and belt clips cannot be guaranteed. In addition to the mobile phone specific adapter sets a universal Bluetooth pairing adapter is also available for connecting any mobile phones that support the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP) to the mobile phone preparation but not to the external antenna, the snap-fit holding and the battery charger. Check the tables below showing which mobile phones work with which mobile phone firmware releases. Unless otherwise explicitly specified the recommended mobile phones are freely available on the market and not provider-specific variants, e.g. from T-Mobile, Vodafone etc. Please note that these recommendations are tied to specific mobile phone firmware releases. The Brief description and Detailed description columns describe any special issues with the mobile phone or the firmware discovered in the tests. Although Volkswagen carries out meticulous and continuous tests on the compatibility of the various mobile phone models Volkswagen cannot guarantee full functionality in all operating environments. This applies in particular to firmware releases that have not been recommended or mobile phones that are not listed. Examples of loss of functionality include, e.g. faults when talking hands-free, Bluetooth pairing failure, poor voice quality in the car as well as for the person at the other end.

Universal pairing adapter

The universal pairing adapter (part number 3C0.051.435.PA) is used to activate the Bluetooth function of the mobile phone preparation. This set up allows all mobile phones that support the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP) to connect to the mobile phone preparation. The mobile phone can be kept in the pocket. In view of the plethora of mobile phones on the market Volkswagen cannot test all mobile phones that support Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP) for compatibility with the mobile phone preparation. The mobile phones in the list below were put through a short test and did not show any problems. However, in view of the simplified nature of the test, the full functionality of these mobile phones cannot be guaranteed under all circumstances.

Brief description

Detailed description The mobile phone sporadically switches off by itself after placing the phone in the holder. If the battery is strongly discharged it takes up to one minute before the charging process starts. The mobile switches off by itself when the charging process starts. Provider-specific mobile phones sometimes identify themselves with a special product code (see above "Checking mobile phone firmware release", e.g. not S65 but S6V). This product code is not listed in the activation table for the mobile phone holder. That is why the hands-free function is not activated. If an MMC memory card is installed in the mobile phone, depending on the memory card content, the mobile phone switches itself off immediately after being placed in the holder and cannot be switched on again as long as it remains in the holder.
