Case Study Analysis

Pick one work and describe what you think makes this project successful.

Toy Story 3
Toy Story 3 has accomplished a feet most films, let alone animated films, never reach - the $900 million mark. The film has supassed $920 million in the world wide box office and is expected to make $400 million in the U.S. this weekend, being the only second Disney film to do so, reports Variety. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was the first Disney film to cross $400 million. The film earned $420 million domestically during its box office run in 2006. "In 1995, the talented team at Pixar introduced a cowboy, a space ranger and their friends who have gone on to become some of the most beloved characters in the

world," Disney chairman Rich Ross said in a statement. Toy Story 3 also has a lot of other accomplishments under it's belt. The film is the top grossing film of 2010 so far, it holds the record for biggest June opening, and it is the highest grossing G-rated film of all time. Woody and friends defeated 2004's Shrek 2, which was previously the heights grossing animated film with $919 million worldwide gross. The Structural Engine of Your Characters Desire For all its emotional complexity, the engine of Toy Story 3s structure is remarkably simple: a single want, shared by each and every one of its characters (just like its shared by each and every child): the desire to be loved and played with. And the big problem which each and every character (just like each and every child and adult) must face is that kids get older, move on, and stop playing with their toys. How does a good toy stay loyal in a world like this? And how does a boy stay loyal to the toys of his childhood? These questions become the basis of the theme of Toy Story 3, and the glue that holds the emotional structure together. Characters Who Shape Their Own Destinies Like any good protagonists, these beloved toys arent just carried along by their fate. Instead, they take action to control their own destinies. Losing faith in Andys love, and believing theyve been abandoned by the only owner theyve ever had, they seek out a new life at a day care center, where their desperate desire to be loved and played with can be fulfilled by other children. Of course, it cant be that easy.
