France, China hope for solidarity from G20Summit

PARIS French President Nicolas Sarkozy and visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguosaid Friday that they h oped for signals of confidence and solidarity from this year's Group of 20 (G20) Summit due in November in southern France. They made the remarks during a meeting at the Elysee Palace, which also covered other topicsincluding th e European debt crisis. Dai firstly conveyed greeting of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Sarkozy. Recalling previous twomeetings b etween the two leaders this year, Dai said the meetings sustained a powerfulmomentum for SinoFrench relations and that China was willing to better bilateral ties throughjoint effort with the French side. "We hope the Cannes G20 Summit can release positive signals of confidence, solidarity,cooperation and m utual benefit," Dai said, voicing willingness to keep close communication andcoordination with France to en sure a fruitful summit. Dai said China had confidence in the euro currency and supported the integration of Europedespite of pres ent difficulties facing a group of European countries, notably the debt crisis. China hoped European countries could work together in a common direction to tide over thehard times, the top Chinese diplomatic official added. Sarkozy thanked President Hu's greeting and said he would like to work with China to promotesmooth deve lopment of Sino-French cooperation. As the president of 2011 G20 Summit, France as well looked forward to issuing a strong signalof international unity in hope of boosti ng economic confidence and activate growth, Sarkozysaid. France attached great importance to the significant influence of China in the G20, and wouldintensify coope ration with China to ensure a successful meeting, the French president added. Commenting on the eurozone debt issue, Sarkozy underlined that France saw great importancein determin ation to tackle the problem, vowing to take ambitiously firm measures to overcomethe debt crisis along with other European peers. Dai started his twostate visit in Europe on Thursday. Before his meeting with Sarkozy, Dai hadtalks with JeanDavid Levitte, Sarkozy's diplomatic adviser and Xavier Musca, general secretaryof the presidency and coor dinator for G20 affairs.

Chinese FM attends BRICS foreign ministers'meeting


UNITED NATIONS Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi attended a meeting of foreignministers from Brazil, Russia, India, Ch ina and South Africa (BRICS) and met respectively withhis Russian and Nigerian counterparts here on Frid ay. During the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Yang noted that great progress has beenachieved in the coo peration among BRICS countries since 2011, and that the organization'sprospects are good. He said the BRICS countries should fully implement the Sanya Declaration and the action planissued at the BRICS Leaders Meeting in April 2011, deepen coordination and cooperation inmajor international issues a nd make good preparations for the fourth meeting of leaders fromBRICS countries. The foreign ministers of the five BRICS countries agreed to further enhance practicalcooperation and impro ve coordination in international affairs. They also exchanged views onthe issues of Libya, Syria, the Palesti neIsrael conflict, the international financial system reform,climate change, sustainable development and antiterrorism. During his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Yang said China is willing tofurther promot e its bilateral strategic cooperative partnership with Russia, prepare for highlevel exchanges this year and enhance cooperation with Russia in the United Nations (UN) andthe Shangh ai Cooperation Organization. Lavrov said Russia attaches great importance to bilateral relations with China and is willing tofurther promo te strategic cooperation with China in all areas and at all levels. The two ministers agreed to solve the Syria issue through dialogue and peaceful consultation.They also ex changed views on the PalestineIsrael conflict, Afghanistan, the upcoming CannesG20 Summit and the East Asia Summit. During talks with Nigerian Foreign Minister Olugbenga Ashiru, Yang noted that China is readyto work with Nigeria to further enrich political mutual trust, push for the smooth development ofeconomic and trade coop eration within the framework of the Forum on ChinaAfricaCooperation (FOCAC) and support the positive influence of the African Union in ensuring thepeace a nd stability of Africa. Ashiru said Nigeria continues to adhere to the oneChina policy, welcomes China's investmentin Nigeria and hopes to enhance cooperation with China in the United Nations and the FOCAC.They also discussed several issues, including the Durban Climate Change Conference. Yang also attended a working breakfast Friday morning, where UN Secretary-General Ban Kimoon met foreign ministers from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
