for pSeries running AIX ========================================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS ================= INTRODUCTION NEW FEATURES THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE FOR ENTERPRISE SERVER INTRODUCTION ============ This document provides information on new features in the product and on restrictions specific to your platform. We recommend you read this document in conjunction with your Introductory Letter and related documentation before using the product. For a list of the versions included in this release and the platforms and operating systems to which they apply, see the document v5100.txt, which is in the root of the software CD. For information on Micro Focus Server, Enterprise Server and the supported databases, Java and J2EE versions, see the Micro Focus Server Help. This is available in the installed product in $COBDIR/docs. To view the Help open espubb.htm in a Web browser. In particular, see the topics, under Start Here > Product Information. NEW FEATURES ============ o WebSphere 6.1 support is added for the following platforms: - Itanium running HP-UX 11.23/11.31 - PA-RISC running HP-UX 11.23/11.31 - SPARC running Solaris 9/10 - pSeries running AIX 5.3/6.1 - x86 running Red Hat Linux 4/5 - x86 running Solaris 10 - x86 running SuSE Linux 10 - zSeries running SuSE 10 - zSeries running Red Hat 5 o JCL support is added, as follows: - TSO-In-Batch support for Rexx QUEUE commands. - Accounting information is now published to the JCL User Exit and the Event Manager Exit. - Support is provided to allow all of the Enterprise Server JCL Utilities (cassub, casout, casstart, casstop, casfile, castran) to be driven by via a callable API. - Ability to view and modify the JES Alias table without the

requirement to take enterprise server down. - Ability to view active SYSOUTs for long running jobs. - Support is provided for SUBSYS DD Exit. - IEBCOMPR Emulation. The provision of this emulation will allow you to use the same JCL in Micro Focus Server as used with IEBCOMPR on the mainframe. - Support for JCL based spool cleanup. Running via JCL allows the option of using a batch job scheduler to execute spool cleanup. - Multiple On Units. Previously, VSE support would only allow the use of one "ON" unit per jobstream. Multiple ON units are now supported. - VSE POWER SLI ICCF Library Support. - Improved JCL and batch initiator control on the JES Control page within ESMAC. Previously, access was restricted on the JES Control page so you either had the ability to submit JCL and start batch initiators and printers or no access at all. Support is now provided to allow the ability to submit JCL but not to start batch initiators or printers and vice versa. THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE FOR ENTERPRISE SERVER ========================================== o J2EE Application Server Support J2EE 1.3 and 1.4 are supported for the deployment of EJBs generated using the Interface Mapping Toolkit, as follows: - J2EE 1.3 includes support for EJB 2.0 and Java Connector Architecture 1.0 - J2EE 1.4 includes support for EJB 2.1 and Java Connector Architecture 1.5 - The following J2EE application servers, using the following JDKs: JBoss 4.0.2 - JDK 1.5 (Sun) for J2EE 1.4 Oracle 10.1.2 - JDK 1.4.2 (Sun) for J2EE 1.3 Oracle 10.1.3 - JDK 1.5 (Sun) for J2EE 1.4 WebLogic 8.1 - JDK 1.4.2 (Sun) for J2EE 1.3 WebLogic 9.0 - JDK 1.5 (Sun) for J2EE 1.4 WebSphere 6.0 - JDK 1.4.2 (IBM) for J2EE 1.4 WebSphere 6.1 - JDK 1.5.0 (IBM) for J2EE 1.4 o J2EE Applications If you run J2EE applications on Enterprise Server, if you stop and restart the enterprise server you must also stop and restart the J2EE application server, such as WebSphere. 533207 o Resource Managers Enterprise Server supports the execution of applications running against any XA-compliant database.

For the following databases, Micro Focus provides a switch module which provides Enterprise Server with access to the database's XA switch structure: - Oracle Applications precompiled using Pro*COBOL, or Cobsql, using * Oracle Pro*COBOL Version 1.8 or later * Oracle Pro*COBOL Version 8 or later - IBM DB2 Universal Database Applications precompiled using the IBM command-line precompiler or compiled using the Micro Focus DB2 Compiler directive. For other databases, refer to the database vendor's documentation for details of their XA switch modules' requirements. If you are defining external XA resource managers for either Oracle or IBM DB2, you need to have set up the database environment before starting the Directory Server. Refer to your database vendor's documentation for further details. If you are defining external XA resource managers for both Oracle and IBM DB2, you should ensure that the Oracle resource manager is defined before the DB2 resource manager from within Enterprise Server Administration. If you are defining external XA resource managers for Oracle, in order to execute your user application, you must create a callable shared object containing Oracle DBMS support, rather than creating a new executable run-time system including that support. For background information see the "COBSQL" chapter in your Database Access Guide, and ee also the Micro Focus Knowledge Base article #22062, located at http://supportline.microfocus.com/mf_kb_display.asp?kbnumber=22062. This article also provides a script that will create the callable shared object for you. ========================================================================== Micro Focus, the Micro Focus Logo, Micro Focus Server, Micro Focus Studio, Net Express, Net Express Academic Edition, Net Express Personal Edition, Server Express, Mainframe Express, Animator, Application Server, AppMaster Builder, APS, Data Express, Enterprise Server, Enterprise View, EnterpriseLink, Object COBOL Developer Suite, Revolve, Revolve Enterprise Edition, SOA Express, Unlocking the Value of Legacy, and XDB are trademarks or registered trademarks of Micro Focus (IP) Limited in the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries.
