CUTTING AND PIECING INSTRUCTIONS:

BLOCK A
Directions given are to make one block, you will need to make 9 block A units for the quilt. From your focus fabric cut one 6-7/8 square of fabric.

From your background fabric, cut two 5-3/8 squares of fabric. Sub cut each of these squares once on the diagonal to yield a total of 4 triangles.

Sew one triangle to each side of the focus fabric block to create the diamond in a square block.

You will make 9 of these blocks.

BLOCK B
You will need 9 light fabrics and 9 dark fabrics and will be making the units for all four (4) Block B units at the same time. From each light fabric, cut one strip 2 x W.O.F. (width of fabric from selvedge to selvedge). From each dark fabric, cut one strip 2 x W.O.F. (width of fabric from selvedge to selvedge). Cut each strip into a 15 length. (Note* set aside the remaining strips for the border pieces.) Sew the strips together along the long edge of fabric.

Trim off the selvedge edges and then sub-cut each strip into four 3-1/2 squares.

You will now begin to piece the Block B units. Layout your block B units, as per the diagram below, alternating the placement of lights and darks.

SETTING TRIANGLES
From your background fabric, cut two 14 blocks. Sub-cut each block on the diagonal twice. This will yield 8 setting triangles total.

CORNER TRIANGLES
From your background fabric, cut 2 7-1/2 blocks. Sub-cut each block once on the diagonal. This will result in 4 corner triangles total.

Once you have made 9 Block A units, 4 Block B units, 8 Setting triangles, and 4 corners triangles, lay out your quilt on the diagonal and sew the rows together to create the quilt center.

BORDER
Your border will be made using the remaining strips left over from Block B. Take each remaining 3-1/2 strip and cut into 2-1/4 pieces. You will need a total of 47 lights pieces (2-1/4 x 3-1/2) and 47 dark pieces. Sew 22 alternating light and dark pieces together along the 3-1/2 sides to form each side border. Sew your side borders to your quilt. Sew 25 alternating light and dark pieces together along the 3-1/2 sides to form the top border. Repeat for the bottom border.

Quilt and bind as desired.
