Fallen Angels

Any discussion of angels must include a discussion of the fallen angels also called devils and demons. So how many theories are there? As with anything involving religion there are different interpretations as to what caused The Fall and when it occurred. When did the fall of the angels happen and the demons and devils begin? If God rested on the seventh day, the end of creation, and pronounced everything to be good then it would follow that all his creations (the angels) were good. So the answer is sometime between the dawn of creation and Satan entering into the Garden of Eden. The poet Dante believed the fall of the rebel angels was within twenty seconds of their creation and originated in the pride that made Lucifer unwilling to wait until the time when he would have perfect knowledge. Milton put the angelic creation and fall immediately prior to the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. In the Second Book of Enoch which dates back to the 1st century, God tells Enoch that following the creation of the angels on the second day, one of the archangels thought that he could place his throne higher than the clouds which are above the earth, and that he might become equal to my power. And I hurled him out from the height, together with his angels. We do not know the exact time of the Fall but clearly there was a huge battle and Lucifer (Satan) and his followers were cast out to create havoc on all of Gods creations. It is not God who creates earthquakes, hurricanes, war, sickness but Satan who also created the most horrific word for all religious people if. So why did the angels fall? It all started with Lucifer, the most beautiful and brilliant of all created beings in heaven. Like Caesar and Hitler he wanted to rule the universe. It was pride and covetousness. God commanded the angels to worship Adam, but Satan and his followers refused because, as Satan himself says in a 1st century work called The Life of Adam and

Eve I am prior to him in creation; before he was made I was already made. He ought to worship me. A similar account appears several times in the Quran, where Satan (Iblis or Shaytan) refuses to bow to Adam on the grounds that angels were created of fire but Adam only of clay (Sura 7). Satan was jealous of Gods love of Adam and declared himself as great as God and led a rebellion of angels. Defeated, by the Archangel Michael, the Devil and his followers, one third of the angels, were tossed out of heaven and has continued to war against God by attempting to ruin Gods creation beginning with the temptation of Eve. Early Christians and contemporaneous Jews were familiar with a very different story in regards to the fallen angels. A brief indication of this story lies in Genesis 6:1-4. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them. The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. These fallen angels, sons of God, are known as the watchers or grigori. According to The Book of Jubilees, 2nd century BCE, the watchers were sent by God to instruct the children of men, but became fallen angels when they descended to earth and started cohabiting with mortal women. It also says that God allowed Satan to keep a tenth of his followers free as agents of punishment on humanity and since evil still existed in the world, it was assumed that some angels had escaped God's initial punishment and the flood. So where do the fallen angels live? That is still up for discussion and it is believed that they live either on the earth or imprisoned under it or even within the heavens where they undergo perpetual punishment.

Most of the ancients including those of the New Testament (Matthew, Jude, and Revelation), agreed that the evil angels would meet their final end at the Last Judgment. In Revelation, the destruction of Satan and his angels takes place near the end of time after a mighty battle with the good angels under Michael (Revelation 12:7-9) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth and his angels were cast out with him

The Watchers
The Watchers also known as the grigori were some of the most loving and responsible of all angels. They are primarily discussed in Biblical apocrypha, Enoch 1, Enoch 2, and the Book of Jubilees (sometimes referred to as the Lesser Genesis). In Jewish legend, the grigori were a superior order of angels who resided in the third or the fifth heaven. They looked like human beings except they were much larger, never slept and were forever silent. According to the Book of Jubliee the Watchers were sent to earth to watch over man and teach him agriculture, astrology and weaponry. This was supposed to be taught over a long period of time, not all at once. However the plan did not work out so well. As it turns out with many things there was a disagreement among this group of angels and they splintered into two groups. The good group consist of Uriel, Raphael, Raguel, Michael, Zerachiel, Gabriel and Remiel which according to Enoch 1 are all archangels. According to Pseudo-Dionysius only four of them are archangels but in any case they are all good angels and did not fall. If you would like to review the archangels click here In the Third Book of Enoch included with the good Watchers are twin angels known as Irin. They discuss and debate every issue that comes before the throne of God in the heavenly court. They are more important than Metatron who, in occult and apocalyptic lore, is one of the greatest angels serving God. The twins or Irin are supposedly the Watchers that are referred to in Daniel 4:17 and in the Third Book of Enoch it is confirmed by saying Each one of them is equal to all the rest put together. Most of the stories of the grigori are detailed in the apocalyptic books mentioned above, but a brief passage in the book of Genesis 6:2 says, That the sons of God saw

the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose refers to the fallen angels or the Watchers. Traditionally, sons of God was taken to indicate angels, although later churchmen rejected the idea that angels could have intercourse with human beings. Just as ancient theologians decided not to include all religious books in canonized bibles they did not want angels to have sex. Gee, imagine that!! The subject of angels and sex has fascinated many authors and has been the topic of philosophical and theological disputes since ancient times. However, there doesn't seem to be any disagreements as to the fact that the Nephilim are the offspring of the Watchers and human women so if they did not disagree on this point, then the Watchers (angels) had to have had sex after they fell from grace. It is important to remember that Lucifer, God's favorite angel, was created with all the knowledge and wisdom of creation. He would have had no problem creating a little genetic engineering at this point. According to the Book of Enoch there were 200 watchers but it only names the leaders. And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And these are the names of the leaders: Semiazaz, their leader, Aarakiba, Rameel, Kokabiel, Tamiel, Ramiel, Danel, Ezeqeel, Baraqijal, Asael, Armaros, Bataarel, Ananel, Zaqiel, Samsapeel, Satarel, Turel, Jomjael, Sariel. These are their chiefs of tens. In 1 Enoch there are 18 senior fallen angels, including Azazel, Amarsras, Baraqiyel and Kokabel. There are a couple of interesting stories on Shemazai, the leader. One is he fell in love with a young maiden called Istehar. She promised to give herself to him if he told her the secret name of God. However, once he told her the name, she said it and immediately ascended to Heaven. Because she was still pure, God placed her in the constellation of Pleiades, so mankind can always see her. Another version of the story says Shemhazai slept with Istehar and they produced two children who became Nephilim, the evil giants. God sent the angels of destruction to kill the Nephilim and Shemhazai became so upset that he flew up to the stars and into the constellation of Orion. He is still there, hanging upside down halfway between Heaven and earth.

Like the good angels have a hierarchy, click here to see Angelology, the Hierarchy of Angels the fallen angels have a hierarchy, under their leader, Satan (among other names). Some have special roles as outlined in Gustave Davidsons Dictionary of Angels. Individual watchers were responsible for certain activities on earth: Armaros: taught men the resolving of enchantments Araquiel (Arakiel): taught men the signs of the earth Azazel: taught men to make knives, swords, and shields, and to devise ornaments and cosmetics Baraqijal (Baraqel): taught men astrology Ezequeel (Ezekeel): taught men the knowledge of the clouds Gadreel: introduced weapons of war Kokabel(Kawkabel): taught the science of constellations Penemue: instructed mankind in writing and taught children the bitter and sweet, and the secrets of wisdom Sariel: taught men the course of the moon Semjaza: taught men enchantments, root-cutting, the knowledge of poisonous or medicinal potions made from plants Shamshiel: taught men the signs of the sun There are different opinions on the watchers but there is no disagreement that they existed. They are demons, they are bound. and they will meet their destruction at the Last Judgment.

The Nephilim Children of the Watchers

Nephilim, in Hebrew means the fallen ones. We know that the fallen ones are the Watchers or Grigori also known as sons of God. The Nephilim were actually the offspring of the Watchers

who mated with human women referred to in Genesis 6:1-2 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. The Bible clearly says daughters of men and sons of God. These offspring are referred to in Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. In this case, in Hebrew the term giant means Nephilim, from the root word naphal, meaning to fall, the fallen ones. They fell from grace, fell from Heaven and fell to Earth. If sons of God are supposed to be non sexual how did they have sex? Lucifer/Satan was over all the fallen angels and was extremely powerful. He was Gods favorite angel and He had filled him with so much wisdom and knowledge that eventually Lucifer/Satan thought he was on equal terms with God. With his knowledge he could have genetically altered the Watchers, the Nephilims' parents, giving them the ability to have sex. Also angels had the ability to take human form as stated in many of the 300 times they are mentioned in the Bible and sent as messengers. Why would Lucifer/Satan want to create such evil people? Maybe it had something to do with when God said that the seed of the woman (Eve) would produce the offspring that would destroy him. So logically, if he killed everyone from the line of Adam and Eve he would protect his own existence. He started his plan when he had Cain murder his own brother Able. Anyway, he had his band of demons procreate as quickly as possible. This union created a species of giants who were superhuman, half human, half demon. They were fierce, argumentative, ravenous and their only intent was pure evil. A very vivid description is in Numbers 13:33, And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. To give you an idea of their size, in Deuteronomy 3:11 when they are talking about Og king of Ba-shan they describe his bed as nine cubits the length and four cubits the breadth, allow me to translate 18 feet long and 8 1/3 feet wide! Can you imagine waking up beside this guy?! To describe them a little further, four huge men of the Philistine army from the land of Gath, which by the way, is where Goliath was from, are mentioned in 2 Samuel 21:20 and one of them is described as having six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. They just get better looking dont you think?!

As we know Goliath was slain by David but did you know Goliath was 13 feet 6 inches tall? David was only sixteen when he went up against and killed this huge hybrid. Just as a point of interest, when Moses and the children of Israel were ready to enter the promised land after wandering around in the desert for 40 years, Moses sent 12 spies to check out the promised land and the people. In the Book of Numbers the spies came back with a cluster of grapes which took two men to carry. Think about that! It took two men to carry one cluster of grapes. They must have been huge and weighed a ton, certainly not the clusters we know. You must think about the fact that God gave Lucifer all the wisdom and knowledge of creation. There were other tribes of these hybrid freaks. They were The Horims, which means cavemen, Zamzummims which means powerful, vigorous or achievers, and Avims or Anakims which are related to the Emim which means terrors or terrible ones were all the offspring of the Nephilim. Almost all of these monsters were destroyed by Joshua and the children of Israel except for a few that remained. You can read all about their battles and destruction in the books of Deuteronomy (2:11; 2:20; 3:11; 3:13). and in Joshua (12:4; 13:12; 15:8; 17:15; 18:16) Even more proof of these giants and the strength can be seen in the 60 giant cities of Bashan where the ruins still exist. A detailed description of these cities can be found in a book written by Dr. Josias Porter titled Giant Cities of Bashan and Syrias Holy Places God really hated the Nephilim and that is when he had Noah start building the ark. He was six hundred years old when he started building the ark so that means the Nephilim and their off spring was running around populating the earth for over 600 years. You have to think the Nephilim were pure demon so now we have a hybrid with pure evil in his heart that could not be rehabilitated. So God being so repulsed, decided to destroy the earth and everything on it except for those in the ark. What crime besides the obvious did they commit that made God so angry? I think Genesis 6:5 11, 12 explains it And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually; The earth also was corrupt

before God, and the earth was filled with violence and God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.. If illicit sex was their only crime then why destroy the animals? In the Book of Enoch VII 3-6 gives more insight, And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh and drink the blood. Then the Earth laid accusation against the lawless ones. This could be off base but if you look at ancient drawings there are pictures of halfhuman and half-animal and centaurs with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a horse. There are sphinxes which show a mans or womans head attached to the body of a lion. These pictures were found throughout Greece, Assyria, Italy and Egypt.

An Egyptian historian named Manethos recorded these times and wrote extensively on these legends. And they (the gods) were said to have brought forth double winged human beings, also others with four wings and two faces; and with one body and two heads, man and woman, male and female within one creature; still other human beings had thighs of goats and horns upon their heads; others had the feet of horses; others been man-headed bulls and four-bodied dogsa great number of wondrous creatures, variously formed and all different from one another, whose images they ranged one beside the other in the Temple of Belos, and preserved. Why else would God say in Geness 6:7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. Lucifer would certainly have had no problem with them mating with animals. He did everything in his power to disgust God and destroy mankind. But his main reason would be to get God to destroy everything and then Gods prophecy that Eves seed would destroy Satan could not come true. It was Lucifer/Satan's second big failure because God spared eight souls, Noah and his family. Noah and his family were the only uncontaminated by the Nephilim and their offspring. This saved the line of the Messiah and the seed of the woman was perpetuated.

Were All the Nephilim destroyed in the Great Flood? God did send the flood but these monsters that contaminated the whole human race could not be destroyed because they were also spirits that could not drown. So what did God do with them? He put all but a few of them in Tartarus better known as hell where they are bound until judgment day. We are also told that the Messiah went to tartarus and basically thumbed his nose at them just so they would no that in was risen from the dead. Anyway, according to the Book of Jubilees Satan, chief of the evil spirits, was allowed to retain a tenth of his followers as agents of punishment on humanity. This is proven out since Moses led the children of Israel out of bondage long after the flood and was checking them out as told above. Do we know what happened to the second invasion of the Nephilim, not really perhaps they are still wondering the earth. But one thing that all religious texts agree on is that they will all meet their final fate at the Last Judgement when their power will be utterly destroyed.
