1.0 INTRODUCTION
Open Source Software Open source software is -software provided for use, modification and redistribution -software that any programmer can download fro the Internet for free and modify with suggested improvements -the only qualification is that changes cant be copyrighted. Hardware Refers to objects that you can actually touch, like disks, disk drives, display screens, keyboards, printers, boards, and chips. In contrast, software is untouchable. Software exists as ideas, concepts, and symbols, but it has no substance. Books provide a useful analogy. The pages and the ink are the hardware, while the words, sentences, paragraphs, and the overall meaning are the software. A computer without software is like a book full of blank pages -- you need software to make the computer useful just as you need words to make a book meaningful.

Software Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data that provide the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. In other words, software is a conceptual entity which is a set of computer programs, procedures, and associated documentation concerned with the operation of a data processing system. We can also say software refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of the computer for some purposes. In other words software is a set of programs, procedures, algorithms and its documentation. Program software performs the function of the program it implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving as input to another piece of software. The term was coined to contrast to the old term hardware (meaning physical devices). In contrast to hardware, software is intangible, meaning it "cannot be touched".[1] Software is also sometimes used in a more narrow sense, meaning application software only. Sometimes the term includes data that has not traditionally been associated with computers, such as film, tapes, and records.

2.0 The Latest Open Source Operating System

2.1 Meaning of Open Source OS

- An open source (OS) operating system is a set of programs that schedule tasks, allocates storage and presents a default interface to the user between applications. But this OS is free, user have the right to use, modify and redistribute the software for better interoperability.

2.2 Examples of Open Source OS

1. Linux Linux is very similar to other operating systems, such as Windows and OS X.Linux is developed collaboratively, meaning no one company is solely responsible for its development or ongoing support. Companies participating in the Linux economy share research and development costs with their partners and competitors. The favorites Linux OS is Linux Ubuntu, Linux Redhat, Linux Caldera

2. Firefox-a web client program (for viewing and hearing web pages) available for Windows and Mac as well as Linux and other UNIX systems.

3.0 The Latest Open Source Application 3.1 Meaning of Open Source Application Software
- Open source application software is computer software that is available in source code form for which the source code and certain other rights normally reserved for copyright holders are provided under a software license that permits users to study, change, and improve the software. Open source licenses often meet the requirements of the Open Source Definition. Some open source application software is available within the public domain. Open source application software is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open source application software is the most prominent example of open source development and often compared to user-generated content or open content movements. The term open source application software originated as part of a marketing campaign for free application software.

3.2 Examples of Open Source Application

1. Microsoft Powerpoint- Microsoft Office product that provides user with an interface to design multimedia slide to be displayed on a projection system or personal computer. The software incorporates image, sounds, videos, text, and charts to create an interactive presentation. Microsoft PowerPoint interacts with other Office product such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and is included with most Microsoft Office packages.

2. Adobe Photoshop- Adobe Photoshop is a graphic editing program developed and published by Adobe Photos Incorporated.

4.0 The Latest Development in ICT

4.1 Hardware
Years ago, we use the mouse with wire, but now we can use wireless mouse. We can use them from anywhere up to the bluetooth signal range, but the main disadvantage is that you are prone to virus. But the chances are less. And you always have to put the bluetooth dongle attached any problem with that and you cant use your device.

Previous:wire mouse

Now:wireless mouse

4.2 Software
Microsoft Office; The latest Microsoft office is easier and complete to use compare with Microsoft office 97.

Microsoft Office 97

Microsoft Office 2010

5.0 Pervasive Computing 5.1 Meaning of Pervasive Computing

The idea that technology is moving beyond the personal computer to everyday devices with embedded technology and connectivity as computing devices become progressively smaller and more powerful. Also called ubiquitous computing, pervasive computing is the result of computer technology advancing at exponential speeds -- a trend toward all man-made and some natural products having hardware and software. Pervasive computing goes beyond the realm of personal computers: it is the idea that almost any device, from clothing to tools to appliances to cars to homes to the human body to your coffee mug, can be imbedded with chips to connect the device to an infinite network of other devices. The goal of pervasive computing, which combines current network technologies with wireless computing, voice recognition, Internet capability and artificial intelligence, is to create an environment where the connectivity of devices is embedded in such a way that the connectivity is unobtrusive and always available.

5.2 Examples of Pervasive Computing

1.Smartphone-a mobile phones that also work as a small computer, allowing you to store information and write letters and report.

2.Earphone-a device that converts electrical energy into sound waves and is worn over or inserted into the ear.
