International book features IE facultys green ergonomics

WITH THEIR CONCEPT OF GREEN ERGONOMICS, OR THE INTEGRATION OF ERGONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ATTRIBUTES IN DESIGNING PRODUCTS, two faculty members from
the Industrial Engineering Department were included in an international publication authored by researchers from 21 countries. Full Professor Dr. Rosemary Seva and Assistant Professor Alma Maria Jennifer Gutierrez co-authored a chapter in the Handbook of Human Factors in Consumer Product Design published by CRC Press. The two wrote the chapter Proposed Framework for Integrating Environmental Issues in Ergonomics to Product Development. Likewise, Seva, together with Prof. Martin Helander of Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), wrote the chapter Affective Design and Consumer Response. Seva and Gutierrez are the only Filipino researchers featured in the book, which covers the current state of the art methods and techniques of product ergonomics. The Institute for Scientific information (ISI) maintains a list of over 14,000 journals, from the arts and humanities to scientific journals. Listing is based on published selection criteria and is an important indicator of journal quality and impact. The ISI also publishes a list of highly cited researchers.

the same commitment to the task of nation-building through excellence and service in education. As an organization that acknowledges see page 3

DLSU, from page 1 the role of education in the formation of tomorrows leaders, GBFI seeks to further advance DLSUs foothold in engineering education in the country. GBFI Trustee Lance Gokongwei announced the new college name during the 85th birthday celebration of his father, premier industrialist John Gokongwei, a DLSU alumnus. DLSU administrators led by President and Chancellor Br. Narciso Erguiza FSC attended the event. Gokongwei (MBA 77) was among the first batch of Lasallian MASTER (Mavens, Stewards, Trailblazers, and Entrepreneurs Resource), a special recognition bestowed by the University to some of its outstanding alumni in business last year. The Gokongwei Brothers Foundation donated P250 million for the exclusive use of the college. This will be used for faculty and facility development as well as for research and student scholarships.
Environmental advocates encourage students to support their cause. With them are (standing, from left) Mayor Alfredo Lim, Catherine Untalan of Miss Earth Foundation, LSIG Director Dr. Francisco Magno, and EVP for External Relations and Internationalization Dr. Alvin Culaba.

Promoting environmental citizenship

Innovation in energy production

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING FULL PROFESSOR AND UNIVERSITY FELLOW DR. RAYMOND GIRARD TAN IS DEVELOPING COMPUTER MODELS for
environment-friendly energy production processes. Tan is a researcher on a field that is internationally known as process systems engineering. His study deals with applying computational techniques to solve problems such as the rate of carbon emission in industry. His works, which have been published locally and internationally, shows new methods and algorithms and computational procedures that he himself developed. With no existing bio refinery, the challenge for them is to figure out a viable design that can generate and sustain the production of this alternative energy. Currently, he is collaborating with colleagues from the United States, Malaysia, Hungary, India, and UK. They are dealing with innovative concepts such as bio refinery, which is being developed in a bid to produce bio mass instead of oil. Biomass can be used as raw material for creating various industry products.
