Some Questions and Answers (Cont.)

When a panel is evaluating a job and they are not sure about some aspects of the information in the JAQ, how do they clarify these matters? Each JAQ should have a name and phone number of the supervisor or manager of the job. When setting up the time and place for evaluation, the panel ensures the manager is available to answer any questions. Who to contact for more Information about the Job Evaluation System (JES)? See your Supervisor or Human Resources Manager to obtain a copy of the JES Information Book.

NT Public Sector Job Evaluation System (JES)

What is Job Evaluation?
Job evaluation is an assessment of the work value of a particular job relative to other jobs in an organisation.

How Does it Work?

The system is based on assessment of eight subfactors that are considered to be common to all jobs. Those sub-factors are: Expertise Knowledge and Experience Breadth Interpersonal Skills Judgement Job Environment Reasoning Accountability Independence and Influence Impact Involvement The points score resulting from evaluation of these sub-factors represents the work value and the relative size of the job compared to other roles within the organisation and across the Sector.

Some Questions and Answers

To have my job re-evaluated (re-JESd) there needs to have been substantial change. What is considered to be substantial change? Substantial change may occur when the job is: given a complete change in focus or role by management allocated new functions and activities combined with another job evolving over a long period and the main tasks or duties undertaken now are clearly different to the original job. What is a JAQ? A JAQ is a Job Analysis Questionnaire. Each JAQ has a series of questions that assist supervisors and employees to analyse and describe the job. Every job that is subject to the JES process should have a JAQ completed and the content approved by the agency CEO. Information from the approved JAQ is used by the Evaluation Panel to evaluate the work value of the job. The content of the JAQ may also be used to develop documentation used in the recruitment process.

JES in the NT Public Sector
