Entrance exam to technical curriculums: calculation tasks (part 3):

ANSWER EACH QUESTION IN THE SEPARATE RESULT SHEET IN THE CORRECT PLACE

1. One corner of a triangle has a 60 angle and the length of the two adjacent sides are in ratio 1 : 3. Calculate the angles of the other triangle corners (0,1:s precision, 1 point / correct angle). 2. A pit is 0,76 meter deep and diameter is 0,66 m. A light pole with a diameter of 0,34 m is erected in the pit. After that the pit is filled with concrete. How many liters of concrete is needed to fill up the pit? (1 l precision, the pit is as cylinder) (2 p)

3. Heat exchanger raises the temperature of air before blowing it into to the factory hall. Transferred heat energy and the air temperature changes can be determined with the following equation: Q = q c p t After inserting the values we get the following equation, where the unknown value is the air temperature after the heat exchanger. Calculate the value of temperature t2. Give the answer in one decimal precision. ( 2 p ) 1000 = 0 ,05 1,16 1006 (t 2 25 )

4. Calculate the sum and the product of the equation roots. Give the answer in fractions (ex: x = 3 ). (1 + 1 p) -3x2+2x+4=0

5. Solve the equation group. Give the answer in fractions (ex: x = 3 ). (1 correct=1 p; 2 correct 1 p; all correct=2 p)

3x + y = 0 2 y + 4 z = 1 1 x + 2z = 2 6

CALCULATE IN THE TASKS 6-10 ONLY ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES (EITHER A OR B OR C) 6. a) An electrical device consumes 600 W of power, when connected to 220 V voltage. Calculate the power consumption of the device, when it is connected in 160 V voltage. Give the answer in 1 W precision. (2 p) b) Calculate the concentration of water and table salt, when 250 grams of table salt NaCl is in 3 litres of liquid. Table salt has a molecular mass of 58,5 g/mol. Give the answer in two decimal precision. (2 p)

7. a) An engineer earns 12 125 mk/month. The general salary rise was 3,1 % starting on 1.4.2000, but the engineers labor union was not satisfied and started a strike on 1.4.2000. During the strike the allowance was 1 800 mk/month, and a new contract was negotiated, where the engineers salary rose by 4,0 % starting 1.5.2000. This satisfied parties and the engineer came back to work on 1.5.2000. How big a percentage would he earn more (+ %) or less (%) during that year, compared with not striking and accepting the general 3,1 % salary rise? Vacation pay, other income, or taxes are not considered. Give the answer in 0,1% precision. (2 p) b) Motorcyclist (total mass 320 kg) stops from a velocity of 36 km/h in 25 s without breaking. The same motorcyclist accelerates in the same conditions from full stop to velocity of 126 km/h in 6 s. Calculate the constant forward carrying force of the engine, if the forces restricting the motion remain constant. Give the answer in 1 N precision. (2 p) c) Which of the following compounds is (write the compound to the results sheet): Na2CO3, Na2B4O7, Na2SO4, KCl, Ca(OH)2, C2H5OH, H2O, HCl, FeSO4, Fe2O3, CaCO3, HNO3 1) sodium sulphate ( p each; total 2 p) 2) ethyl alcohol 3) hydrochloric acid 4) iron oxide

8. a) Calculate the variable x value of the following equation. Give the answer in fractions. (2 p) x=5(2-x)+1 b) The car velocity is 100 km/h. Suddenly, the driver sees a elk 120 m from the car standing on the road. The drivers reaction time is 1,5 s, after which time the driver starts braking. The braking is assumed steady and the deceleration is 7,5 m/s2. The car stops in 4 s. Calculate the distance between the standing elk and the car after the car has stopped. Give the answer in 1 m precision. (2 p)

c) The electrochemical series of metals is as follows: Li, K, Ba, Ca, Na, Mg, Al, Zn, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Sn, Pb, H, Cu, Hg, Ag, Au, Pt In this series the metals are organized in decreasing order of oxidation capacity. Conclude, with the help of the electrochemical series, which two of the following claims are correct (answer using only the letters of correct answers; 1 + 1 p). a) The more on the left the metal is in the electrochemical series, the more powerful is the tendency to give electrons. b) Copper roofing panels should be nailed with iron nails. c) Platinum gives the electrons of the outer orbit most easily. d) Silver reacts with the common acids. e) If a gold ring is dropped into a silver nitrate liquor, nothing happens to the gold ring. 9. a) The lengths of a triangle sides are 5 m, 5 m and 2 m. Calculate the area of the triangle. Give the answer in 0,1 m2 precision. (2 p) b) What is the total pressure (absolute pressure) against the porthole of a submarine, when the submarine is at a 35 m depth, and the density of the seawater is 1020 kg/m3.
