This technical note deals with the remove and refit of the accessories belt for F9Q engines equipped with an automatic tensioner.

WARNING NEVER TURN THE ENGINE IN THE DIRECTION OPPOSITE TO THAT OF NORMAL OPERATION.

Special notes concerning engines fitted with an auto tensioner: BELT REMOVAL Remove the belt.

Depending on ease of access to the engine, place tool Mot. 1676 on the belt section: alternator-compressor or crankshaft-fixed roller. Maintain the force created by belt torsion until the tension wheel pretensioning torque plate can be inserted manually.

BELT REFITTING Before refitting the new belt, clean with a brush the Vgrooves of the crankshaft pulley to remove any deposits. WARNING A belt which has been removed MUST be changed. Do not run the engine without the accessories belt to keep from damaging the accessories crankshaft pulley. Position the apertures of the tension wheel end piece on the engine mounting and screw in, but do not tighten the two new bolts.

Keep the tension wheel in the high position. Install the belt, ending with the tension wheel.

Exert merely pressure with the thumb on the end of the tension wheel to position said wheel. While maintaining this light pressure with the thumb, tighten the two new mounting bolts to a torque of 2.5 daN.m.

The tension wheel is now tightened in position. Tensioning of the tension wheel: Depending on ease of access to the engine, place tool Mot. 1676 on the belt section: alternator-compressor or crankshaft-fixed roller. Once the belt has been centred on the tool's rollers, take a ratchet spanner and apply a rotation movement to tension the belt.

Maintain the force created by belt torsion until the tension wheel's pretensioning torque plate can be withdrawn manually.

Apply tension to the tension wheel while gradually relaxing the force. The tension wheel is now ready to operate.
