The AIM Anti-Counterfeiting Committee

The activities of AIM, the European Brands Association, cover all issues impacting the ability of manufacturers to design, to market, to distribute and to sell their brands. Through its membership of national associations in 22 countries and close to 50 corporate members, AIM represents some 1800 companies, the vast majority of which are active in the fast moving consumer goods sector. For over 20 years AIM has coordinated the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee, bringing together AIM members with other associations, organisations and companies who are also affected by the menace of counterfeiting and piracy. Attached are brief overviews of the associations and organisations with whom we work in this Committee, together with a complete membership list (including the corporate members) and an explanatory diagram. Mission: To act as a strong, coherent voice for European industry in the fight against the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit and pirated items To engage in world-wide co-operation with all public and private sector stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and public policy makers Operation & Methodology: The AIM Anti-Counterfeiting Committee has been established for over 20 years and brings together AIM members with over 20 other industry associations/organisations and companies with the shared goal of combating counterfeiting and piracy Chairmen always recognised industry experts. ABAC - BAAN Belgian anti-counterfeiting group The association belge d'anti-contrefaon is a non-profit organization that helps companies to fight counterfeiting. Unlike other organisations against piracy and counterfeiting, ABAC-BAAN is unique as it does not focus on a single segment of the market. ABAC-BAAN also handles cases from Luxembourg, as it has one of the largest cargo-airports of the European Union. For further information contact: ACG - UK anti-counterfeiting group The Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) represents the interests of around 200 companies in 30 different countries. ACG works through high profile media campaigns, roadshows, and conferences to change societys perception of counterfeiting and to underline the damaging economic and social cost of fakes. ACG lobbies all levels of government, from local to international, for more enforcement resources and to bring in the necessary legislation to protect society from the increasing global threat of counterfeiting. ANDEMA - Spanish anti-counterfeiting group Founded in 1989 by the Spanish High Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation, ANDEMA is a non-profit business association, composed of 60 industrial and intellectual property rights owners of a various range of sectors including clothes, shoes, leather, jewellery, foodstuffs, wines, spirits, beauty products, telecommunications, tobacco, hotels, pallets, toys and taps. ANDEMA seeks to defend intellectual and industrial property rights at any level, for which it carries out some lobbying activity. ANDEMA is very active in the fight against counterfeiting, cooperating in educational programs and in public awareness campaigns. ANDEMA also deals with other fields of activity relevant to intellectual and industrial property rights: fiscal fraud, parallel trade, electronic trade, unfair competition, trade marks estimate, and innovation and design. APM - German anti-counterfeiting group Founded by the Federation of German Industry (BDI), the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and the German Brands Association (Markenverband), the Aktionskreis Deutsche Wirtschaft gegen Produkt- und Markenpirterie e.V. (APM) (German Business Action Group against Product and Trade Mark Counterfeiting) aims to promote the adherence to rules protecting intellectual property, to protect business from the violation of such rules, and to combat crime in that area. Apart from lobbying, APM is also active in monitoring the German market with regard to fake sales and deals with public awareness. BIEM - Bureau des Socits grant les Droits d'Enregistrement et de Reproduction Mcanique BIEM is the international organisation representing mechanical rights societies. Mechanical rights societies exist in most countries. They license and collect royalties on the reproduction of songs (including musical, literary and dramatic works). Their members are authors, composers and music publishers. They also license the mechanical rights in downloading and streaming music via the Internet. BIEM represents 50 societies from 53 countries and promotes the interests of its member societies, particularly in forums relating to authors' rights. BMD - United Brands Association, Turkey The Birlesmis Markalar Dernegi (BMD) (United Brands Association) is a non-governmental organisation of the Turkish retail sector. BMD consists of the most valuable Turkish and international retail brands from sectors such as ready-to-wear, shoes, leather, furniture, home textile, opticians, cosmetics, household appliances, communication and electronics. The main objective of BMD is to support the improvement of the retail industry in Turkey. Moreover, the struggle against product counterfeiting and the protection of its members' brand values are crucial for BMD. British Brands Group The members of the British Brands Group, the national association of AIM, comprise many of the world's leading brand manufacturers, all committed to ensuring that brands and their contribution to consumers, society and the economy are understood and reflected in UK policy. While building a deeper understanding of brands is the Group's primary role, it also represents its members collectively when regulatory or commercial issues arise that may inhibit the ability of brands to deliver their benefits. Centromarca Portugal Portuguese branded goods association Centromarca is AIMs national association in Portugal, bringing together companies from various sectors, whose main objective is to jointly analyse the problems affecting brands and to coordinate the efforts required for solving them. Centromarca groups 49 associate members, representing 54 companies. Centromarca seeks to be the agent responsible for bringing together and combining all ideas and initiatives capable of contributing to the protection and promotion of the brand. Comit Colbert - French luxury goods association The Comit Colbert, comprising 69 French luxury companies, represents a major economic force. The Comit Colbert is eager to ensure the long-term existence of this living, artistic heritage. Through its committees, the Comit Colbert implements campaigns to awaken the interest of younger generations. The Comit conveys the cultural richness of its members, their capacity for creation and innovation. The Comit Colbert helps its member companies combat counterfeiting. DLF Denmark Danish branded goods association The Danish Association of FMCG Producers (DLF) is a non-profit organisation of some 150 member companies covering close to 90% of grocery turnover in the Danish market. DLF is AIMs national association in Denmark and is open for membership to FMCG manufacturers who sell and distribute products through retailers, but at the same time remain financially independent of these retailers. DLFs mission is to follow, influence and provide informaton about changes in national and international processes so that the members in coalition with their partners in retail are able to respond to consumer demands, better, faster and at lower cost. DLF Norway Norwegian branded goods association AIMs national association in Norway, the Grocery Manufacturers of Norway (DLF), is an association of some 90 member companies covering close to 80% of grocery turnover in the Norwegian market. DLF is open for membership to manufacturers and suppliers of branded products. Companies with a majority of business in private labels cannot become members. The mission statement of DLF includes five main elements: enhancement and understanding of good business practice; professional cooperation for efficient infrastructure; good regulations for fair and effective competition; balance of power between retailers and suppliers; and a favourable climate for growth through innovation and category management. ECPA - European Crop Protection Industry

ECPA is the pan-European voice of the Crop Protection Industry. ECPA is the Brussels based trade association that represents the crop protection industry in Europe, working with a wide range of stakeholders. Our membership consists of 20 market leading companies as well as national associations in over 24 countries across the EU and the wider Europe. Our members provide not only traditional crop protection products such as herbicides, fungicides and insecticide, but also biopesticides, biocides and genetically modified seeds. EFPIA The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations EFPIA represents the research-based pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. Through its direct membership of 29 national pharmaceutical industry associations and 45 leading pharmaceutical companies, EFPIA is the voice on the European scene of about 2,000 companies committed to researching, developing and bringing to patients new medicines that improve health and the quality of life around the world. EFPIA has the broad objective of improving the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in Europe in a regulatory and political environment which above all stimulates R&D and rewards innovation. EGEDA - Collective Management Organisation Representing Audiovisual Producers EGEDA is a collective management organisation of audiovisual producers rights founded in 1990. It represents and defends the interests of audiovisual producers in Spain and at international level. EGEDA is in particular active in Latin America. Its activities consist in collecting royalties for private copies and certain types of public performance rights, such as retransmissions and communications in places open to the public. Another important activity of EGEDA is the fight against piracy. The AntiPiracy Department has been very active since it was set up in 1994. EGEDA collaborates with public authorities in this area and organises raising-awareness campaigns and training sessions. In its determination to fight piracy EGEDA has set up a legal online distribution platform of audiovisual productions, Filmotech (www.filmotech.com). The major areas of concern to EURATEX over recent years have been: to promote a further expansion of the EU exports of textiles and clothing; to promote legislation and its application in the field of intellectual property; to support measures which enhance environmental protection but which are at the same time acceptable to the industry; and to disseminate economic and statistical data to the membership. FESI - Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry The Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) represents the interests of approximately 1,800 sporting goods manufacturers (85% of the European market), through its ten National Sports Industry Federations and directly affiliated member companies. The European sporting goods industry directly and indirectly employs over 640,000 citizens in the EU27. FESI covers a wide range of policy areas, particularly the fight against the production and sale of counterfeit goods. The FESI Intellectual Property Rights committee focuses on copyright, trademark rights, design rights, patent rights and trade names. IBEC - Irish Business and Employers Confederation The Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC), AIMs national association in Ireland, works to shape policies and influence decisionmaking in a way that develops and protects members' interests and contributes to the development and maintenance of an economy that promotes enterprise and productive employment. Economic affairs, employee relations, pay, employment, taxation, competition, the environment, trade, transport, sectoral matters - these are just some of the wide range of issues on which the IBEC works and serves its members on a daily basis. IFPI - International music industry association IFPI represents the recording industry worldwide with over 1450 members in 75 countries and affiliated industry associations in 48 countries. INDICAM- Italian anti-counterfeiting group INDICAM represents over 190 companies, industry associations, law and IP firms, security consultants and other organisations daily engaged against counterfeiting activities that hit branded products. Indicam is active in Italy and internationally, in developing IP rights and anti-counterfeiting awareness and culture, in lobbying for better anti-counterfeiting legislation and its stricter enforcement. International Chamber of Commerce ICC (International Chamber of Commerce) is the voice of world business championing the global economy as a force for economic growth, job creation and prosperity. ICC activities cover a broad spectrum, from arbitration and dispute resolution to making the case for open trade and the market economy system, business self-regulation, fighting corruption or combating commercial crime. Through its BASCAP initiative business action against counterfeiting and piracy it aims to highlight the problems and dangers of counterfeiting at the highest political level. The ICCs Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau is part of the ICC and operates as an international anti-counterfeiting organisation with members in more than 50 countries throughout the world. ISFE - Interactive Software Federation of Europe ISFE, the Interactive Software Federation of Europe, represents the European videogame industry which produces entertainment and educational software for use on personal computers, game consoles, portable devices and mobile phones. It is the fastest growing 'content' sector in Europe. Markenartikelverband Austrian branded goods association The Austrian Branded Goods Association (Markenartikelverband) is the only industry-wide association in Austria dealing with all questions concerning brands. Both companies producing locally as well as companies represented in Austria by subsidiaries make up the membership of the Markenartikelverband. Membership is concentrated on the fast moving consumer goods and comprises presently 118 companies. For further information contact: office@mav.at

Markenverband - German branded goods association Founded in 1903 by leading German branded consumer goods manufacturers in their fight against unfair competition, the German Brands Association Markenverband today represents some 380 branded goods and services companies with an annual turnover of c. 350 bn. Markenverbands activities cover a broad spectrum, from political lobbying for a brand friendly legal and competitive environment, including freedom of advertisement and effective IP protection, to member services like workshops and conferences on relevant issues. Markenverband represents its members on questions of general concern towards the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, the German Customs Organisation and in the Advisory Committee of the German NIC (DeNIC) on the TLD .de. Amongst other issues, especially important fields of work are the fight against counterfeits and look-alikes, unfair competition and competition law, but also CSR and consumer policy. For further information contact: MPA - Motion Picture Association The Motion Picture Association (MPA) serves the interests of major motion picture companies, home video and television industries in the global marketplace: Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLLP, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. The MPA (working with local Content Protection Organizations) investigates and reports on activities infringing intellectual property rights, assists with the resulting criminal and civil litigation to protect their copyrights, and conducts educational outreach programs to teach movie fans around the world about the harmful effects of copyright theft. Promarca - Swiss branded goods association Promarca is AIMs national association in Switzerland. It groups the branded goods manufacturer in food and the near-food industry. ProMarka - Polish branded goods association The Polish Association of Branded Goods Manufacturers, AIMs national association, has nearly 50 member companies. The basic goal of ProMarka is to act with respect to establishment, promotion and protection of the trade mark - the brand - as a means to single out the article, as well as to protect the branded product and its consumer. ProMarka represents branded goods manufacturers as far as contacts with the government administration, social organisations and other institutions in fighting counterfeits. RusBrand Russian branded goods association RusBrand, the non-profit Association of Branded Goods Manufacturers in Russia, was established in spring 2002 by more than 20 leading consumer goods manufacturers. It is the first large-scale effort in Russia to unite both Russian and international manufacturers to further their interests and serve as the voice of the branded goods industry. To date, RusBrand has 54 members companies working to create an environment of fair and vigorous competition, fostering innovation and guaranteeing maximum value to consumers. TIE - Toy Industries of Europe TIE is an action group that promotes the value of toys and play in the psychological, physical and social development of children. It is the representative voice of the toy industry to EU stakeholders. TIE interfaces with the EU institutions and other European stakeholders on behalf of the toy industry advocating its position in the fields that are key to the industry i.e. advertising and marketing, international trade, and toy safety regulation. TIEs policy objectives are: to promote understanding of the importance of play in child development; to work in partnership with officials to ensure that appropriate standards are set and enforced for toy safety; to promote global free trade in toys; to work with legislators to protect the intellectual property rights of European manufacturers and distributors and to promote a common standard of working conditions in toy factories across the world. Union des Fabricants - French anti-counterfeiting association Union des Fabricants, the French anti counterfeiting association, is a unique observatory for protecting intellectual property rights. Its task, which is in the public interest, benefits to all its members. It provides them with a forum for obtaining and exchanging information. Union des Fabricants lobbies government departments, dialogues with national and international bodies, organises trainings or actions and communicates with the general public. The main tasks of Union des Fabricants are to: inform and support companies and professionals; work with Government Departments; create consumer awareness; ensure media coverage; act and influence; and deal with authentication, in collaboration with public authorities.
